Last night I was a bad tank. ;-;

My partner and a friend of hers were doing ex roulette for tomes. I have capped on scripture and don't care overmuch about lore, so I was sitting it out and they queued as two dps. They zoned in to sohm al hard with a new healer and... nope, the tank was gone almost immediately.

My partner expressed utter confusion as to why someone would leave what is almost certainly the easier of the two ex dungeons, I mean I'm pretty sure you could complete them in fine time even with a scholar with no fairy who cast nothing but physick. Either way, after a brief wait to dodge an 8min in prog (I'm sorry, in prog, I would have helped you if I wasn't needed elsewhere!) I zoned in.

They'd already pulled the first pack while they were waiting, so I voked the only thing with hp left and went straight into the big pulls. My partner gently reminded me that the healer was new, but tanks that don't pull everything in sohm al hard are either new or lazy, so I figured I'd carry on with the big pulls and tone it down with an apology if they couldn't keep up.

Turns out this healer was amazing. They didn't struggle at all with the big pulls, did some perfectly timed holy spamming even, ha dno trouble keeping e alive when I stance danced on the bosses even though some of them hit like a truck. After getting a number of... suspect healers in previous roulettes, I was all set to comm the shit out of this whm as soon as we finished the dungeon in record time.

And... well, then we got to the last boss.

Started out great, my partner accidentally shadewalkered the dragoon instead of me, and he has stupid aggro at the best of times (he's like one piece off best in slot, I'm still using two i2500 proto alex pieces because parry offends me as a person). the whm had been informed to stack flying press at the edges of the arena and did that just fine, he did the first hiss and I made sure to pick up the roaming add while the dps focussed down the borehole one, so far so good even if I had managed to hit every button AROUND sheltron and miss the actual defensives for two tankbusters so far...

Second hiss occurs. I'm used to a caster or ranged limit break just putting paid to it, but we had two melee, so I figured I'd focus down the closer borehole add. and COMPLETELY FORGOT to pick up the two roaming adds, who of course went straight to the healer and ate their pretty face with double tankbusters.

I was MORTIFIED. We wiped shortly after, because hallowed has an animation delay, my partner had her little toe in an AoE and the drg hit b4b instead of bloodbath. We rez, I apologise profusely to the healer, and they immediately start... apologising too?

I tried to tell them that there was pretty much nothing they could have done, those tankbusters hit like a truck, it was literally 100% my fault I am an embarrassment to tanking. We pull again and this time I pick up the adds like a tank doing the bare minimum their job requires, and we clear no trouble. The whm remarks that they've just come back from a 2 month break, and they're sorry if they're rusty, and again I try to assure them that they were amazing and I was a tank who needed to pay attention.

My partner's friend asked if he should comm me or the whm, to which I obviously said the whm, because they actually managed to do their job, lmao. Unfortunately they were on a different server so I couldn't send them a friend request, but I tried to make it clear that I was the one who dun goofed, at least!

As a bard i always assume the healer will dps, because as a healer i always try to dps and strongly advocate healer deeps.

i have zero experience as a bard, but doesn't foe's reduce the bard's dps? like i appreciate them doing it, but if i'm right wouldn't they be better off not singing even if i am dps'ing?

edit: nevermind me, i'm just dumb i guess. just checked the wiki and it says i'm super wrong. it's was the MP/TP refreshes i was confusing it with.

Nah it's fine, you just remember a former version of the skill before BRD got buffed a lot..^^
Requiem does no longer lower the BRD's dps, so we can freely sing it. So whenever I get a decently geared healer (not one that is in panic mode struggling to keep the tank alive) I cheerfully sing for them....and not a single one ever used a single attack spell throughout the entire run..

Ran into "that" blackmage in Wanderes Palace normal. He was level 55 but his rotation was all over the place. Blizz 3 x3, transpose, Flare, do nothing, blizz 3, Freeze x2, transpose, fire x3. I honestly believe as the AST I was out dpsing him. I admit I am not a master blackmage but I know my rotation enough to have cleared the A10s dummy, tried to offer advice "Hey ___ would you like some help on rotation?" Silence, so just shrugged and left it as is. Honestly hurt to see it and what gets me is times like this I wish I could be the DPS, but then I get the healer who stands around with a finger up their bum and makes me wish I was the healer to move this along. The tank I think was new or forgot how the dungeon was ran but they did well, think the only real pro was the DRG so she got my commendation. Walked out with 2 for some reason...guessing the tank and dragoon.

Was in a learning Savage eyes. Party finder for new people learning. Other healer was new, I'm just starting to learn generators. A DPS started to talk smack about how awful the healers I. I said learning and getting better. He would not let up. So I stopped and said, cut it or time to leave.
Surprisingly some of the group was angry at me for calling him out on talking smack, even though they thought he as the problem.
I said Sorry, but I don't put up with bad attitude and verbal abuse from others. Guy would not stop so I left. It's a name, if people can't show some basic respect for others that play then should not be in a social MMO.

So my tank friend and I queued into 60 roulette for the hell of it. We got ARF and I noticed my co-DPS was a fellow bard. 'Oh boy, this is going to be fun /sarcasm' I thought.

It really was fun. LEGIT fun. I had never run into another fellow bard in a roulette that I could literally call my equal, if not better in skill level. We were literally jumping over each other to sing for the obviously overjoyed DPS WHM and rain arrows on everything in sight. Our poor tank got nailed by universal manipulation, and so I threw my Paean at him to cleanse one of the debuffs. To my surprise, the other bard did it at the exact same time. We blew up the dungeon in like 18 minutes (and the WHM's mind, who mentioned his previous record run was a minute and a half longer).

What did we learn today, folks? Two raid-tier bards are freaking scary as hell.

Anyway, in one run, one of the WHMs decides to wait until Scathach to admit that they're new. Okay.

We got to Diabolos Hollow, and I get Doomed, and this new WHM also gets Doomed, while hardcasting Raise. Instead of pausing that Raise to maybe Esuna themselves, they keep on casting and end up dying. I died too, but you know what, at this point I can't bring myself to care.

So here's what I said, trying to be friendly in explaining a mechanic of the fight to a new healer: "you kind of need to cleanse that doom off, or else this happens".

I was promptly told to shut up, and apparently this counts as sassing. Okay then, I'll just shut up, not explain anything about mechanics and die like a good little BLM tank because neither tanks nor healers know what they're supposed to do and don't care about doing their jobs right either.

I'm recently trying to get my last job - monk - to level 60 and got some very good reminders during the last week why I dont like DF-tanks... so here it goes:

1) Leveling puts me into DV - together with a DRK whos best approach at jewls is a pair of level39-NQ-earrings. While is left-side and weapon are okay, all his jewls are crap and he has about as much HP as I do (one of his rings was an ilvl5 piece!). So natuarlly the new-ish healer struggles to keep him alive and we wipe to trash within the first 5 minutes. Twice. After that the healer DC's and doesnt come back for another 5 minutes (probably crying somewhere in shame because they thought it was their fault... or rage quited because they couldnt bother to heal that tank). I'm having a little chat with the tank after that and while it was a nice guy, he claims hes a healer main (so he should freaking know that a tanks gear is important!) and that he was just to cheap to get any new gear... so yeah, duty dropped and back into the queue I go, wasted half an hour of my life!

2) aaaand its DV again - this time the tank has proper gear, but cant hold aggro to save his, äh my life. Not even after told how to. At level 56. Run takes about 50 minutes, I'm tanking half of the mobs and the french healer ONLY knows cure.

3) The Vault, super-hyper-active warrior - and a new BLM, great combo! The warrior is already walking against the barricade while the blm is peacefully watching his 20 second cutscene. He runs forwads, runs into bossrooms, does stupid big pulls, cant hold aggro when we use AoE-skills and is just in a hurry in general, totally ignoring the new BLM. Infcact, hes ignoring them so much, he pulls the last boss, while the BLM is watching his cutscene again (geez, guy, chill...), he dies and lies there, obviously waiting for a raise. When I tell the healer not to and him to return to avoid weakness he starts insulting me for being an ass - I obviously need to be super-friendly to someone who admitted that he isnt paying attention multiple times during the run and who just killed himself because of that, jep. At least the group agreed with me that it would be stupid for him to get weakness, he returns, we kill the boss and I get two commendations - I wonder from who...

4) Actually a nice story - kinda. Leveling places me in copperbell NM today- Scholar, blm, mrd. I've got more HP than the mrd again and am ripping hate, no matter how hard I try, not to. So I check their "gear" - which consisted of 3 (!) ilvl1 glamour-pieces and the level 20 axe. Nothing more. 4 items in total, 3 not even giving stats - and they're on level 27, so... yeah... I suggest getting some gear and it turns out that they were dragged into this by the BLM who just queued up without letting them change class or anything xD
So they apologize, we roll with it and having a nice chat through the whole dungeon!
Hurtful though: When I mentioned I'm actually a girl, the tank is all surprised about a girl playing a male character... its not a male character... its my beautiful FemRoe... I AM NOT A MAN!
