Yup and honestly I'd say the blame lies with other Ninjas and Summoners. I've ran with tanks who are good tanks and know what they're doing say they've never see a Doton before. And I've ran with plenty of other Ninjas to know he was most likely serious. Same with Summoners, I've seen some never use their Shadow Flare.

I had a tank tell me Shadow Flare was too distracting once and that I was harassing him by surrounding him with a blinding blue light.

Yet he didn't bat an eye at a White Mage spamming Holy ¬___¬

It's a bit of a brownish circle that ripples.

Bards also have the fire circle I believe.
Which is a yellow/orangish hue.

It is true, sadly. I gave the healer my com for being smart enough to play to the tank's mindset, rather than trying to argue and convince him of being wrong.

All player paced AoEs are blue unless class thematic coloring is involved, all mob AoEs are orange unless its thematic coloring to the boss.

Well, there's a difference between the AoE indicator and the actual AoE particle effect itself. Yes, incoming friendly AoEs are blue, and hostile incoming AoEs are yellow'ish. But the actual particles aren't always that clear.

Couldn't you have just told him to look at the party window for when you are casting Shadow Flare to prove that its something Arcanists/Summoner/Scholar are capable of

Ultimately less of a headache that way but still its a rather unusual situation to be in xD

I just turn off all visual effects from party. If I see it and I didn't cast then it's bad.

Friends and I picked up a little level 20 arcanist in Limsa and offered to run his Tam Tara with him. I don't even remember the place. LOL. We get to the final boss and 1/2 way through our tank has fallen asleep. I had told the little nooblet during the first pulls that rule 1 is to take any mobs you pull off the tank right back to the tank. I told him rule 2... if you've pulled EVERYthing in a boss fight, run to the tank, jump up and down, slap him a few times, call and make his phone ring, then just kite it around, hope the healer can keep up and the other DPS can kill it. Today my friend who was tanking says he could have sworn he finished the fight. No, no you did not.
