level 36 marauder was the issue. I do mean that quite literally - he was not a Warrior.

Also, Warriors are known for having a VERY easy time holding threat post-30 because of Defiance. Tank stance is rediculously powerful, especially with Warriors and overpower for AoE tanking.

It's easy for a competent marauder to hold threat. Key word: competent. If your dps out gear you and are synced down from a high level, the competent marauder has to actually pay attention to what they're doing to hold threat.

You guys think a 36 marauder is bad? I ran Labyrinth of Ancients once with a 50 marauder as my co-tank. The group made fun of him basically the entire raid while he stubbornly insisted having more cross class skills was worth not having Defiance.

In LoD I remember some people running as a Marauder so they could take Blood for Blood and Internal Release (A lot of that only required one tank was the issue) - so people would go as Marauder to get more CD's for DPS'ing. Was that their intent or were they just really bad? XD

I mean, if he just wanted to run the whole thing as dps who got a tank queue, he succeeded there? I was the only tank actually functioning as a tank in our alliance lol.

I'd feel completely crippled without my wrath stacks and all those beautiful Defiance moves. I mean, the only thing better than back to back Steel Cyclones are two critical Fell Cleaves in a row.

Yea I feel ya. If you can't actually function as a tank as a Marauder (One of my issues with the people who did it) then you really shouldn't try to que tank as a 'DPS'... but like I said - I just remember lots of WAR's doing it at the time because it A) Gave more DPS to the alliance and B) Gave them as an individual more DPS. It was... very strange, and probably an early symptom of the DPS-obsessed WAR's we have now. XD

As I said, this isn't about a bad Tank, this is about a player who has not been instructed to seek out obtaining their Job Crystal and using Tank stance. Obviously if he just started the game he could be maybe a week or so into the game and therefore does not have someone advising him to seek out the Job Guy in Costa Del Sol.

Honestly, a Dragoon can tank any of the Lv49 and under dungeons anyways, the best thing to do is to advise the Warrior that he would have a hard time holding threat and that after the dungeon he should seek out his Job Crystal in Costa Del Sol. Not get on a forum and give him shit for being new.

The job quest for Warrior does not start in Costa Del Sol. The Job quest actually starts from the very same NPC you end your Marauder quest at - specifically, it starts at Axemaster Wyzon, which is the same NPC that ends the level 30 Marauder quest.

I don't knwo if I agree with your idea that it doesn't explain it to new players, as interacting with the NPC literalyl shows that it requires level 30 Marauder and level 15 Gladiator if you dont' have both jobs up (Whcih this tank didn't, thus he also didn't have Provoke.)

Secondly: You're negating two other points about what made him aweful. Not only was he downright an aweful tank, he also:

1) Wasted lb. Twice. After being asked not to.
2) Ran into boss rooms without an explanation as a new player to the dungoun.

Yes. He was an aweful tank in every regard.

(Also you keep mentioning Dragoon but I was on my Bard at the time, so I think you might be mixing my avatar up with what I was actually on)

I love putting out some good numbers on WAR, don't get me wrong, but my primary job as a tank is to secure and hold threat. And use cooldowns, and be a good team player, etc. If I wanna dps I'll get on one of my dps jobs. XD

However, if you don't have 15 GLD when you finish your level 30 MRD quest, won't the quest giver's next quest just be the usual red "You're not high enough level yet" icon? Wouldn't most new players figure the next quest is at level 35, happily run off to their next dungeon, and maybe get into a feeling of "It's going great today, I won't stop to do quests just yet"?

It's a red icon, and when you interact with the quest giver, it tells you what class and level you're missing. So the only way you'd miss it is if you didn't at least check the npc to see what the brand new quest is.

Example: I got my GLD to 22 first and stopped playing that while happily leveling WAR. Then I decided to get my job crystal later, got GLD to 30, went to the receptionist for the quest, and did a face palm when checking with her reminded me I needed CNJ at 15. I hadn't even started one, and had forgotten I needed that.

But this time the second healer wasn't incompetent, they were simply missing because they left right after the start of the duty. Like Ramuh is that threatening *shrug*
