XIV's popularity has only been swelling further as time goes on, and I'd assume that means an influx of new players who generally don't initially grasp that healers in XIV ideally tend to spend more time using damaging abilities then actually healing.

It's kind of an outlier in that regard as healer DPS is typically a luxury in other MMOs if it's even viable at all.

The first thing I noticed when I picked up healer in XIV was that "Hey, I actually cause noticeable damage to things", so I immediately took to the mentality of mitigating damage by making things dead faster.

My brain was doing massive dumbs tonight in Breach. Wasn't watching my own health or position - died twice because of it.
But the special part was, within the span of one second, thinking "Oh crap that person's gonna die over there!" and immediately Rescue'ing them just as an AoE hit them... because I was out of insta-heals at the time.
... I felt so horrible because of it. @.@ So I realized it was just going to be a very, VERY bad night for me and logged early.

The times they have to start using gcds to heal you, something may be seriously up, or you're on a mega pull. As a tank you're supposed to be staggering your mitigations, and the dps are supposed to be unloading and rotating their cooldowns. However, if the healer ends up being a cure/physick/benefic1 bot, you'll eventually learn just how annoying that sound is being spammed every second. I can still hear that noise...

As a mass pulling tank, I won't quite notice if my hp is that low until my name goes grey, as I'm quite comfortable now with random healers using their stuff to keep me alive and help kill the packs. This becomes a LOT easier as WAR as you get a very sexy self-bene every 25 seconds.

If you're having to blow through all of your cooldowns on a mass pull and the mobs are still not dead, and the healer's used up ALL of their ogcds, then there is something quite wrong with the party's dps. If all ogcds are used up/haven't come off cooldown yet, the mobs are still alive and munching on your face AND the healer is having to resort to spamming their base heal by being so ungodly low on MP, you're kinda f*cked.

The few times I make exceptions to this is if it's new expansion content and people are brand-spanking new. Like legit 'I just got to this dungeon after playing the game through the start and I have no idea about the pulls of this place' kind of new.

If you're new to the dungeon as a tank, tell them that you're new and are not familiar with the good pull stops in the dungeon. Usually that'll give the healer the heads up. However if they encourage big pulls, do follow their lead and do the big pulls. This is the only way you'll probably end up learning dungeons as a tank.
Problem with this is that my tank job is currently level 38 or so.

Healers still have to hard cast at this stage. I really don't like being under 30% hp when they have to hard cast and my mitigation's all on cd. Especially when dropping fast.

It's probably different at higher levels, but at low levels it just sucks.

I mained PLD in HW, but the game's changed since then. Back then, we had "stop pulling wall to wall" posts.

Im not even sure i actually know what all french stereotypes we might be referring to. And yet, anytime i notice someone only has F set for language i also notice that they tend to be awful. Dont get me wrong, there are plenty of awful E people too. But F people...

Hoo boy, as a healer main, I can safely say I have a story to tell.

As I was running through the ShB MSQ I was going through Holminster Switch for the first time. I figured, "eh, I did it with the others and managed fine, so this shouldn't be too bad." After queue popped and went in, I notified everyone that this was my first time going through this as a heads-up for them. It was fine, but throughout the entire run, I got no tips on the bosses and each one I at least fell once. I was asking with each one if there was anything I should know. I got nothing and was essentially left high and dry. The final one, a new mechanic popped up that I knew nothing about, so I ended up getting creamed and the party wiped each time. I asked once more, and it was on the third attempt of this that someone actually deigned to tell me after I made it painfully clear that it was my first time, "I was under the impression that you read a walkthrough of this."

I flipped and said, "Of course I didn't! I don't like doing that!" After that, someone decided to say, "The mechanics of the fight showed up in previous dungeons. You should've known about them." That angered me and safe to say, I wasn't exactly enjoying that run at all.

Well, there are a few ways of looking at this:

1- Running a dungeon for the first time, in normal content, there is no need to read a guide or watch a video- first of all, by a certain level, people should know a lot of the mechanics, and know the basics of their job.
2- seeing a guide spoils the experience for some people.
3- Reviewing a guide helps some people who have more responsibility in a party, and/or who usually take a bit more time to pick up mechanics. It can make that first run it a bit less stressful.

All of these viewpoints have merit, where it falls apart in my experience is where someone insist on *their* way being the only acceptable way or when they aren't really suited for their preferred way. Don't want to read a guide first? No problem- but I hope by level 60 or 70, that person knows not to stand in AOEs, or that you know what a stack marker is. If someone can't figure out that your standing over here when the whole group is over there is probably a bad thing, well , maybe a change in preparation made be a good thing.

I dunno why you think you're entitled to people spending time to explain every dungeon mechanic to you. Dungeons are super easy, by the time you're at ShB, you should be able to do them without having your hand held.

Unfortunately you're going to have to get used to it. The only hp that matters is the last one.

With the advent of the trust system, run the dungeon first with trust, to see the mechanics and get a feel, then run with other people, if you don't want to look at a guide.
