Pour one out for the BLM's that get rescued right as they Aetherial Manipulate to safety so they get dragged through an aoe, eat damage anyways, and have the healer nagging at them for the rest of the run.

Given we're on the same data center, it's very possible. My story was from a couple days ago, though. However they weren't the only one I've seen, and for whatever reason BLMs love to tank AoEs in Orbonne specifically lately.Did you and I get the same BLM? lmao
Had one doing almost exactly as you described, in Orbonne, just a little while ago. Normally I'm used to BLMs not moving out of minor AoEs and if I see them pop a Manaward, I won't bother worrying - but this dude would just not move ever. Not even from the actual dangerous stuff.
The AST was babysitting them more than me, so they managed to not die quite so frequently, but still about 3-4 deaths over the course of the run simply because they ate too many vuln stacks or stood in something really bad.
And yeah, if they know what they're doing, taking a hit doesn't really matter. When I'm a DPS sometimes I'll just eat an AoE if I'm doing some kind of burst or LB, because I know it won't kill me, or I'll be ready with Second Wind or something. But some people... they must think they look like pro players but they really don't when they're dead on the ground.
Speaking of BLMs, there are not an insignificant amount of them I've encountered that during boss fights, they just stand alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll the way to the back even if the boss is at the different side of the earth. Not just BLMs though, I've encountered RDM and SMN that did this as well. This is especially annoying if I play as a Healer since often I need to strut near them wasting another healing spell to cure their HP. Or when I play as a class that can give buff, these people will not get it because they stood so far away.
Oh dear, I have some idea how those salty healer vs BLM meme came to life but I would never thought people could be that petty. Playing as a BLM sometimes, I’ve only been rescued twice out of my [Leyline]. While I was grateful for their attempt to be helpful, I just kept doing what I usually do, and those two healer eventually catches that I’ll be fine.
My only guess is those scaredy healers are more likely to not know either the class (BLM) or the encounters. Getting petty is very uncalled for, though.Nobody died.
Yeah, players standing all the way off in Narnia irritate me when I'm on heals as well and oftentimes unless I can reach them with a quick Afflatus or Tetra, I don't bother. If you aren't going to stand close enough for heals, I'm not going to chase you down.Speaking of BLMs, there are not an insignificant amount of them I've encountered that during boss fights, they just stand alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll the way to the back even if the boss is at the different side of the earth. Also part of why I try to be really conscious of staying within AoE range when I'm on DNC or RDM. Granted I've also developed the habit of Vercuring myself if I eat damage from being stupid, because hey - my mistake, healer shouldn't have to deal with me making a dumb decision or being too far away when I do.
Only time I vercure is if the healer(s) is actually not healing me, and I know a mechanic is going to go off that could kill me. Vercure is a dps loss, but better safe than sorry.
WHM | RDM | DNC
Remember my newcomer friends? Well I'm here with another story with one of them!
Manually queued into Cutter's Cry in a party of two as a DNC (me) and AST (they're trying it out!)
Loaded, got matched with a PLD and BLM.
As soon as the 'Duty Commenced' message pops, the BLM groans "Why this.." while the PLD joins the sentiment as he said "I wasn't going to get into this...". The two suddenly had a light bulb and intended to vote abandon the duty together. But me and my friend actually queued specifically into THAT run and we're not about to requeue again.
To put it simply, it was a somewhat stressful run for my friend being new to healer roles. Couple that with some weird shenanigan those two PLD and BLM had across the run, that shocks my friend to some degree. Seven out of ten times the PLD stood still in several AoE, not bothering to dodge. BLM is also guilty for this behavior but not as often as the tank. Nobody died but the stress was still relatable.
At chimera boss I reminded my friend what to do, but he tunnel visioned and died to AoE. The boss is still at 65%... but we decided to go on. PLD and BLM still eating AoEs here and there but BLM noticeably 'wakes up' after my friend died. Eventually they too ate the floor when the boss is around 30%. At that point I wished the PLD would stop flaunting their tank privilege but nope! Still eating and eating like cookies! He goes down at 13%, leaving only myself to fend for myself. Time to pop sprint and kite like crazy! And kite I shall, LB gauge pops which helps me to shave off good chunk of Chimera's HP to finish off the rest.![]()

What I don't get about this is they're not doing themself any favour. I you throw your Leylines to Narnia, you often have a harder time dodging mechanics. Many bosses have cones, donuts, stacks and so on that require you to stand at (max) melee. Or even side/ front/ back cleaves that are easiest to dodge if you stand inside the hitbox. e10 is extreme with those sidecleaves but many other bosses have them aswell, starting as early as HW.Yeah, players standing all the way off in Narnia irritate me when I'm on heals as well and oftentimes unless I can reach them with a quick Afflatus or Tetra, I don't bother. This "ranges need to stay at max range" is so outdated, it's far better to stay at mid range/ max melee or even inside the hitbox on some bosses in all content types. I generally have the rule that I stay in unless I need to move out. Then I move out and right back in.
Had a run of The Chrysalis last night with 4 new people that had the RDM pull before the tanks had put on stance, and then they proceeded to let three dps just get annhilated before one put it on. Same RDM then used used the LB as soon as it was available and not on the tear.
I was healer and was so peeved that I had a hard time stabilizing the run after that start. That and healer moves are so sparse at that level and the arena is so wide that it’s hard to get everyone when they are so spread out and not alternating orbs....it was just so painful. On top of the usual “one tank isn’t grabbing meteors despite being told to”.
I’m glad we somehow cleared it by the skin of our teeth because I was so ready to take penalty.
Reminds me of the time I had a PLD stand on the meteors I was standing in while tanking, rather than taking other meteors and rotating out with me. We ended up wiping because of it.
When I asked them why they kept stacking on me rather than going to the other meteors, their answer was: "I didn't know you were a tank"
Me, holding a very overly large DRK sword, staring directly at them like ???
They weren't a new player either, like at least two 80s.
i honestly can't remember if I've told that story before here or not
