LotA in roulette. Friend and i on healers.
We had a RDM in our group that got angry when the bonedragon was tanked in the middle (/gasp).
He was also standing so far away from the rest of the group that our aoe healing didnt reach him.
So of course he died
After i rezzed him (out of spite) he blamed the tanks for his death (lol).
He got even angrier when people hold him that "mechanics are cars".
...
Seriously i need more alcohol for this whole "bonedragon must be tanked on the far platforms".

Just came back to the game after stopping mid HW. My GF took a look here and wanted to give 14 a try. I roll up a GLD so I can at least PLD tank till I get DRK and she goes THM for nukes.

We unlock the DF and hit the first dungeon. Let everyone know we're new(it's been long enough that I have forgotten most of the mechanics I would have known anyway) and we're welcomed with open arms.

Goes without a hitch.

Hit Tam-Tara, repeat the new comment, and get to chugging through it. Get to the third Void Monster, everything's going great...and then I faceplant. Our healer had been doing such a good job, that I'd tuned out my green bar....

Healer: "Oops...dps tunnel vision."
GF: "You killed my BF!"
*Rez*
Me: "I'm Okay!"

Everyone got a chuckle and we beat squidface with no problems.

Copperbell was mundane but still very good people with us.

Got up to Ifrit just chugging away at the MQ line because we want DRK and MCH respectively, and we wiped...second dps didn't help on the nail the first time...I blame the fact I taunted Murphy.


Overall the DF treated the two of us well for the first round on our characters...I hope it lasts!

Garuda normal. Tank forgot stance for two minutes into fight, four if you count the following: WHM was using one handed weapon and shield. WHM connected from the bloody First irl. They were also wearing the Brand New Ring. At 46+.

Doesn't seem to be that big a deal before level 50. *shrug*

Contrary to popular belief, this is usually how the DF handles new people, or seemingly new people. There are other issues with people in the DF, but this isn't one of them.

I had a party a while back that nearly wiped to bone dragon because healers were asleep at the wheel and the tank kept the boss dead center without communicating to the rest of us. Alliance A got nuked, C almost ate it. B, the one I was in, almost ate dirt too because healers were again, asleep at the wheel, but at least were a bit more alert.

At least it doesn't beat the wipe I had on the Allagan Bomb boss. 'lol mechanics'

This thread may have more then 30k replies, but its not really full of "new player horror stories". Most of us treat new players well enough. The game encourages re-playing old content, it rewards helping someone on their first run, and being abusive over chat is something the GMs take seriously so its less common then some other games. People dont really complain about someone being new or not knowing mechanics. They do complain about people not paying attention and ignoring chat when chat is trying to help. They complain about people not trying, or seeming to play bad intentionally. They complain about a myriad of topics, but being new just aint one of 'em.

I had that DPS tunnel vision yesterday in Haukke Manor on an alt. I was on Scholar and saw the tank health going down too fast when at the first quarter of the cast for Broil. I made the mistake of wanting to keep the broil going before healing and we wiped. I apologised in similar words and people were okay. We finished without a hitch and I definitely learnt my lesson. Even though I'm a relatively new healer (been healing for roughly a month now) the whole DPS vs healing decision is a balancing act that I suspect I'll be learning for a long time still. And more or less, people are okay because everyone makes mistakes and most people learn from them.

I have to admit that in the 7 months I've been playing, mostly on the Chaos data centre, I've had only three really rude people, two in the last month I've been learning to heal. Otherwise my experiences in DF are quite positive. In the last month alone people have been accommodating to my noobness in healing and my various mistakes (and also in many occasions a torrent of questions at the end of the dungeon when they were people who knew healing). I got a few good tips from them and I'm so grateful for that. Fundamentals are important I guess.
