The last boss however, was really rough. Probably died around 4-5 times, with the group wiping each time. Honestly felt terrible.

The really lovable part: The group is filled with really, really great people. I wouldn't be surprised if I got a kick but instead they kept encouraging me, using encouraging emotes, giving advice, overall just really pleasant mood. Even at the last boss when we wiped several times, none quit or got mad, instead encouraging words are traded around and we just kept trying.

When we finally managed to beat the boss, celebration! Hahaha. The good people there were looking for a Shoebill and lo and behold, Shoebill is there. Of course, I pass it--I mean, I got a Shoebill already, but even if I have not, I still would pass--these people were so great and I felt bad about dying what's seemlingly a thousand times.

And WTF, I got 3 player recommendations! WHAAAAT THHEEEE HELLLLLL that was so heartwarming I felt like crying, haha. And one of them is a mentor too! I heard many bad things about mentors hahaha, but wow, what a pleasant experience.

(on a side note, fuck playing Amaurot again as a Healer, lol)
man i really hate amaurot . its a duty i get quite often as a mentor sometimes i get it 3 times a day. Im also a dps so i cant do anything if tank and heal are new and we have to slowpull . add to that the second boss is basicly more mobs to kill and im basically at the verge of lobotomizing myself to numb the pain.

Might as well ask, lol, at the last boss, is there a tell on which side of the faces adds will shoot laser beams first? I honestly couldn't figure it out, and it's giving me lots of problems. Or is it just random?

It's not random. They will never shoot in the same place twice in 1 series, and the boss will use aoes to herd you into one of them.

I made a chart to remember but Im not home.. so here's my attempt..
    <[ boss ] - x
    × -
    <<<<<<< - x
    x -
    <<<<<<< - x

Take that series and swap the rows with no arrows with the ones that have arrows and you have the pattern for the next series..

Note: chart is an example.. i dont remember what series the boss first uses.

Yeah there is probably a simply way to remember..

The dungeon I hate the most is between amaurot and the one with the stupid brooms. I hate both of those dungeons. Now if all I got was the Alex dungeon all the time I'd be in heaven. Love that one. The music and the last boss is epic.

You're not really intended to avoid all of the damage from the lasers which is why they're persistent, multi-hitting AoEs instead of a single hit.

The best thing to do is stand between the heads to minimize the amount you have to move to get out of the first laser, then move into where said laser was once it fades to avoid the second set.

So I bought a boost for astrologian, and I'm still getting the hang of it. I play on the ps4, so healing's a bit harder for me. It doesn't help that this is the first time I've played a healer in any mmo. With this in mind, I queue for instances that have full parties so the other healer can cover for me when I screw up. It's worked out so far, and I've been getting better bit by bit (I'm using the cards now lol XD). Got Ridorana today and the other healer was a white mage...who was new too and died often. Moral of the story, I'd like to thank the RDM in our alliance for the rez when both the WHM and I go down at the same time.

Just why do you buy a boost for a class you never ever tried before?
You get overwhelmed by all the skills and are a burden for your group in all higher level instances.

Why didn't you just start is with level 30 and do dungeons on this level to learn the basic concept of healing in FFxiv or mmos in general.

I really would like to know why.

Buying jump potions on a new class/ role is perfectly fine. Even if you just started FFXIV and this is your first MMO.
But it's everyone's own responsibility to ensure that they are no burden for parties. Wether learning through trust runs or by going from really low level dungeons to higher level ones bit by bit to get comfortable with the skills as they come or by researching in the internet and practicing on a dummy. As long as they do that, it's no issue at all.
Since you have really short queue times on healer, it would probably be better to just run a couple of low level dungeons in a certain order.
    My AST specific recommendation:
    • Brayflox (basic skill set + Asp. Benefic)
    • Stone Vigil (+ Redraw & Asp. Helios)
    • Dzemael (+ Gravity)
    • 50-55 dungeons (+ Divination/ Minor Arcana/ Synastry/ Noct)
    • Gubal Library (+ Collective Unconscious/ Celestial Opposition)
    • any 61-67 dungeon (Earthly Star)
No need to go through every dungeon, only through the ones that unlock 1-2 gameplay changing skils in their level range and once you got used to Earthly Star you can jump straight to Holminster and continue as normal because Sleeve Draw is the only gameplay changing skill between 62 and 70.

Oh, and don't worry too much about cards.
    Your priority should be:
    1. keep the party alive
    2. learn to balance healing and dpsing
    3. cards.
Yes, cards are last priority even though they are the class' unique mechanic. They have less impact on overall flow of the run than being able to balance healing and dpsing. If you forgot a card it's not nearly as impactful as running out of MP, dead party members or not being able to dps at all.

Yes this is my responsibility. This is my bad. I wanted a trial by fire and have all the skills available to practice on since I wanted to farm the Ivalice healer gear (I love FFT). I made sure I knew how to use my kit before entering these raids. I can actually balance the healing and dpsing by the time I entered the alliance raids. I am going to practice more to become better to avoid what happened above.
