    Oh! I have a story.

About 3 weeks ago I got Cape Westwind while I was leveling my last two tanks. As soon as the barrier dropped I rushed in to MT him facing him so he's pointed up the hill. For some reason the DRG in our party decided to stand just behind me. Turns out the boss has a cleave. And said DRG had paper for armour. And died. This all went down before the adds spawned.

So. Then the adds. Instead of everyone just zerging the boss so the adds all rush in and picked up by a single tank AoE the entire group but me proceeds to single target down the adds. And not even in a coordinated way. Everyone just went ham on a random add and since everyone was spread out all over the place it was kind of chaos. Combined with the boss using his massive AoE at least twice this resulted in 3 more deaths by the end of the fight somehow, and the second set of adds actually spawning. Which of course the entire group proceeded to take down with single target abilities in exactly the same haphazard way as the first.

I was just there at the top of the hill the entire time with the boss with my mouth agape wondering if what the heck I was watching was real or not.

To continue on with the Cape Westwind stories, but on a slightly different vein, am I the only one who doesn't really find it funny when older/max level players load into the trial and then act like it's going to be super hard with a chance of wiping?

    Like.

The joke was never that amusing to begin with, and feels kind of disingenuous towards the newbies who are likely in their first full party of the game. The boss dies if you sneeze on him. Feels like going in before the gate drops as 'oh no we might wipe' and then it literally falling over from a couple pokes of our murder sticks will give new players a bad expectancy for later.

Might just be me not finding them that funny though.

Either way, thankfully I've never seen the level of stupid (or lazy) that can get people killed in literally the most braindead content in the game. outside of the CT series, at least

Not going to lie, the first run of Cape Westwind I had was someone telling me this boss was really OP and someone else said "60 seconds". Around 50 seconds in, the boss says he's going to nuke us and I thought we actually had 60 seconds to beat it. We beat the boss at 58 or 59 seconds so I thought it was really close.

After a couple of runs later (weeks to months later), when the boss DID nuke us ... I realized I was lied to.

Had an Expert run that left a sour taste in my mouth. For context, the dungeon was Anamnesis Anyder with me as DRG, a GNB, a SCH, and finally a BLM. And last but not least; nobody was new.

At first, everything was going fine; people said their hellos and the opening thrash was dying pretty quickly. We get to the first boss and that's when I started seeing the warning signs.

Before the first boss evens dies, so that we can focus on the clone boss, the BLM AND SCH both hit the ground. Somehow, someway, the GNB and I managed to defeat the two (I died on the last hit). I felt proud of myself and the GNB for pulling that off, and shrugged off the deaths as accidents.

The 2nd set of thrash dies again--no problem. Then the 2nd boss begins. You guessed it--the BLM and SCH both hit the pavement dead. GNB and I couldn't pull off the same feat as earlier and hit the ground later.

    Round 2:

Same. Freaking thing. BLM and SCH both hit the pavement. Thankfully, the boss's HP was low enough for the GNB and I to finish it. The SCH pipes up:

"My gear is too low for this place"

I check the gear. It's mostly 430 with some 460 tied in (I think maybe a 480 or 2). The gear was fine. All you had to do was avoid the giant yellow circles.

I'm getting tired at this point, out of patience, and just want this dungeon to end. The next set of mobs take forever this time and we FINALLY get to the final boss.

Here is the summary of the fight:

BLM and SCH die immediately; GNB and I can't pull it off. We wipe. Round 2. BLM and SCH die AGAIN. GNB and I can't pull it off. We wipe. ROUND 3. BLM AND SCH DIE AGAIN. GNB and I can't pull it off. We wipe. ROUND 4...

Oh and the adds spawned every single time because nobody except the GNB and myself were standing the on the vents.

    I just....

I typed out the ENTIRE strategy to this fight TWICE. We have already been in this dungeon for over 40 minutes. The BLM celebrates victory with me.

No. NO. You do not get to celebrate victory. You are reason why we are here!!!!

I finally gave up and took the penalty. GNB, sorry I had to do that, you were awesome and I hope you got your run completed.

I feel the same way. It reminds me of the, "Haha, I just printed that," type of jokes I got all the time as a cashier when checking if bigger bills were counterfeit or not. Repeat a joke enough times and it stops being funny.

Lord I know how that joke feels. Granted it wasn't even funny to me the first time.

Editing in a story: Imagine being so tilted at being told a healer can solo heal through Cleansing Strike's doom mechanic that you continue taking potshots about it even after the final boss of Orbonne is dead.

Some people in this game really can't handle the thought someone called them bad.

You probably aren't. They are fine, and breaks the long hours of silence in chat that I have when it does come up. I just say "Murder time" because it's not gonna be hard.

There's a sizeable chunk of the playerbase who thinks "dying my way to victory" is a perfectly fine mindset, with no malice intended.

    I mean, I think it's hilarious

For a story I did have a run where my offtank didn't even attempt to pick up adds and they ran up and deleted our hyper squishie newbie healer though. Must've been wearing a paper bag or something, cause they died before I could even get close enough to smack the adds myself. Felt bad for the poor guy lmao
