Why? From what I see they're describing the basics of being a decent tank. Evaluate the capability of the group and go at a pace they can handle. If they're performing so poorly that things are barely dying, simply move on and leave without any insults or causing deliberate wipes to prove a petty point. What more do you want?

Dungeons are hilarious. The attitude towards them is baffling, they're just a chore you rush at any cost with no social interaction. Why do you guys even bother with them?

Sorry, I was just relaying a recurring complaint that I've heard from PUG and FC Red Mages. I would be lying if I said that I knew anything about their rotations first-hand.
Displacement does a backflip and has 200 potency, can't be double-weaved.
Engagement is a similiar move on the same recast timer without a backflip and 150 potency, can be double-weaved.
Simply always using Engagement is the easy way but at least in endgame content you generally try to use Displacement whenever possible. But mistakes happen until you gauged the right position and angle for every fight correctly. I backflipped into the electro fence in E1s when I stood one step too far back. Displacement is an A+ way to cheese dropping the puddle away from the group - if you don't kill yourself in the process.

Sorry. I don't actually remember most almost all of the skill names on any of the classes I play. I just know what they do.

Somebody else looks to have covered it anyway. Too many people don't actually utilize the RDM's full kit, or timing. I'm not boasting, I am pretty trash, and I hate RDM (it's a boring DPS), but I at least try to utilize it's kit.

I completely forgot my stories from yesterday.
So I've been grabbing a SAM from my FC to do some roulettes for "quick tomes" - I think I already jinxed it when I wrote that in FC chat...

    Expert - Anamnesis Andyr:
The tank had a whooping 20k more HP than I had on my BLM. Barely passed min iLvl, mostly with right side stuff. Ah well, I don't have to heal it.
Naturally he pulled single which is understandable but made the run feel incredibly slow nonetheless. SAM and I were melting through the mobs but additional packs would've likely killed our paper tank.
First boss during spinning arrow - Tank dead, BLM now tanks. YAY!
Trash pull, I'm doing my usual AoE rotation (so no crazy burst like quad Flare + Triple Foul with Leylines)...aaaand aggro. Whoops. BLM tanks again.
Second boss during hammer/ arrow - Tank dead, BLM now tanks. YAY! I'm kind of getting used to this.
Last boss, the tank gets one shot by the tankbuster because he ate a vuln stack. Guess who tanked? At least now I know that the tankbuster deals a whooping 120k to casters. Something a BLM could survive with full HP and Manaward.

    80 - Amaurot:
The tank was fantastic. Nice speed, CD management on point and even helped out with Clemency here and there. Why that was neccessary?
The WHM healed with Cure 1. Only Cure 1. On very few occasions I would see a Regen but I'm pretty sure he just missclicked. That was definitely meant to be another Cure 1.
So when I died from unavoidable damage he left mid-pull. "How do you even get to 80 with only using Cure 1?" the tank wrote and I wondered the same.
While we waited for a replacement, I asked if we should try to continue on our own. Pretty sure the PLD was able to heal us much better than our Cure 1 healer. He was up for it, so we continued to clear the path until the first boss where a new healer zoned in.
The rest of the run was a blast.
When we reached the endboss, the tank dc'ed and my SAM pal fat-fingered something and pulled. So I had the pleasure of tanking the boss the whole fight. I addled and manawarded what I could but the healer didn't seem to have much trouble keeping me alive anyway and we just bashed the boss to death without a tank. When

    Trial - Ruby Weapon:
Got the replacement healer from Amaurot again, yay! Now I knew that at least one of the healers was definitely competent. Even if we get another Cure 1 spammer, he could handle it easily.
Unless, of course, the other healer decides that it's the best idea ever to stack stack markers and instant kill the whole party. Stack marks have been around forever, how much does it take to figure out that it might not be a brilliant idea to stack them?
We wiped two times to this and another time to too many dead people during his charge phase. Another wipe to Liquification because too many people died from quicksand.
In P2 we wiped because tanks didn't pick up the meteors and though the dps reacted quickly and tried to fill in, we still got stacks because they weren't killed in time and had too many deaths during Dalamud. Next try we wiped to the same thing. Next try we wiped to too many deaths from the big meteor.
Overall we spent something between 35-40 minutes in there.
(Fun fact: there was only one first timer. And I saw several people with Ruby Ex weapons)

    "Quick tomes"
    Mhm.

More of a treat than the tank who said "I will pull wall to wall regardless" a page or two later in reply to the one you quoted.

At least the one you quoted will at least adjust their pulling to the party's needs rather than wiping the group repeatedly which just wastes everybody's time and make the dungeon take longer than if they would have just pulled singles.

You don't know which part of that post I was commenting on. Sturm is probably not serious(I thought it was funny) but if not, then at least there wasn't a header that basically brags for no reason what so ever. Let's be honest, tanking is brain dead at its very basic. You don't need to kill say Epic Alexander 70 times to know how to pull say.. The Grand Cosmos..

I'm with Maeka on this one, too. I would 1000% rather run with a no-nonsense tank who knows what they're doing and can adjust to the group over the person who posted the "funny" response or the healers/dps who pull ahead of the tanks (what was being discussed when Aurelius2625 made the post you quoted.)

You not personally liking their perceived brag (which I didn't interpret as such) doesn't take any merit from their method of tanking in PuGs.

I've run into a few tanks who seem to want to try to turn the Grand Cosmos into an Ultimate duty, though. "Okay, I'll go in with minimum ilvl, pull wall-to-wall, and seemingly remove all my cooldowns from my hotbars. The healer will probably enjoy the challenge!"

(Jim Daly narrator voice a'la Pushing Daisies: But in fact the healer did not enjoy the challenge this time, for while she truly believed the 'unique' runs could often be the most interesting, on this particular run she had hoped merely for tomes and then a chance to sleep. So upon seeing the tank's health vanishing as rapidly as morning mist in the sunrise, the healer felt only exasperation as she resigned herself to a run wherein she would not, it seemed, be able to do much in the way of DPS. Indeed, a run where she might even be reduced to that most shameful of states for all white mages: the need to use GCD heals.)

I aim to make my posts engaging and entertaining, even when you might not agree with me. And failing that, I'll just be very, VERY wordy.

Oddly enough depending on my mood I do enjoy healing tanks like that, I turn it into a game of can I keep this sheet of paper alive, or not.
