Just did Lakshmi as healer with a friend. The trial itself was so-so. We had a few newbies, didn't quite get the mechs, but it was no big.

However, my temper did briefly go through the roof when my cohealer decided to be clever.

First, he rescued me towards his own healer AOE, resulting in us stacking them.
Then, when I ran away from it, not wanting to die, he chased after me around the edge of the area.

It was like something out of a looneytunes cartoon.

We very nearly both died to those AOEs. After I somewhat politely said in cbox not to stack them (and please never use rescue in that scenario), they didn't try to do it again.

You ever try to level your ninja and whenever you drop your Doton or whatever the tank moves everything out of it?

I think tanks see anything that's not asylum/sacred soil on the ground and assume it's bad. Just like i did (and sometimes still do) when DRK came out with all of its unfriendly looking effects. And also BRD's flaming arrow in ARR.

Many tanks run away from Asylum too. Basically they run away from every ground targeting skill. And yeah, with Doton, it just led me to use it much less.

My main Job is RDM, currently at level 75. But I also am leveling several classes on the side for fun. Relevant to today's story is Conjurer.
In a previous MMO I played a healer, so I took to Conjurer like fish to water. But man, the hardest challenge I've had playing this class is in Thousand Maws.
Esuna got a workout the likes that it never has before, because I didn't want to leave the Tank with three stacks of poison at once. And whenever me and the group fought a Cat O' Ninetails, I had to make sure to keep the entire party healthy.
But the "highlight", so to speak, is the boss fight at the end. The DPS rushed in a little too soon, and got the entire party sucked into the arena...except the tank, who was watching the cutscene. Needless to say, this was followed by a wipe. Second attempt went better, but I was scared for my life because even the Tank couldn't pull every add to them. So I got chased around a bit and had to heal myself on occasion. (To be clear, the Tank did their job, it was just a lot.)

I consider myself very Mediocre at the game and have definitely been that player before, so I don't like to complain about others but...

So, my brother has been having some issues with WoW and I invited him to give FF14 a try and he liked it so much I ended up buying him the game. He mains heals in WoW and with a few tips on how healing is different/you're expected to dps in between heals he was doing great.

So he gets to Satasha and I offer to tank for him since I'm levelling glad to paladin and I know people hate Satasha, so I'd rather it be me taking him through things so he has an enjoyable first experience. We queue in and everyone but me in is in cutscene and below level cap and I think "Cool, a bunch of newbies, I'll keep things steady.". Things start off really good, everyone seems pretty competent and the pugilist in our group is really solid. Then this thaumaturge....gosh. She starts running ahead of everyone. No big deal; I'm a big boy and I know how to grab aggro but at one point she BOLTS ahead and grabs 2-3 mobs of trash so I pop sprint and run after her but she's panicking and running around grabbing more trash instead of coming to me and ends up dying. I'm able to grab aggro finally and the pugilist and my bro run in and we get the pack down.

I take a second to explain swiftcast raises to my bro for next time and then I say to the thaum "hey just a tip for next time, if you get aggro you can always run back to me so I can take it off you"

thaum says "lol i'm not new, just not used to dying so quickly" and "i didn't know if we got raise at this level"

internally i roll my eyes and just...okay buddy....

Rest of the dungeon goes smoothly and she seems to have learnt her lesson. Then in the big room of trash right before the boss, she breaks away from the group again, grabs the entire room of trash, starts running towards me but dies halfway so all the aggro hits healer, I run to grab aggro off him but he goes down before I get everything off him. Me and pugilist put in a good effort but at level 15 and 18 respectively even popping potions we just can't get them all down. I die, then the mobs kill off the pugilist.

Thaum says "Oh no a wipe" and I'm just. In shock. We really wiped in Satasha...
My brother being a good dude who thinks the best of people starts blaming himself and I tell him not to worry about it and that wipes happen, it's part of the learning experience.

We get the rest of the mobs down and the boss down no problem at all. As I'm thanking everyone for the party and complimenting the pugilist the Thaum says "Good job everyone! I would have used an LB but I don't have it yet"

I had to go lie down for a bit after that. Needless to say the pugilist got me and my brothers comms. Whoever you are I'm so sorry your first dungeon had to be like that.

I admit, Toto-Rak is one of my least favorite dungeons to heal because of the sheer number of poison stacks combined with a lack of skills on my hotbar at that level.

That said—in light of the "chased around for a bit" part of that quoted statement—if you don't mind one tip for future play to make that fight (and others) a little less nerve-wracking for you as a healer: if you end up with adds on you, don't panic! Just go hug the tank. Your new friends will generally follow you. The tank's probably using an AoE skill anyway if there's more than one mob out, and if they aren't, they'll probably start when your new friends come along to play. And as soon as your hungry new friends get smacked with the AoE, they'll forget about you in favor of their new tanky chew-toy.

It's a really common and understandable reflex to want to flee the mobs as a healer—one I was prone to myself until I learned better—but you'll lose them a lot faster if you hug the tank like a security blanket. Even if it somewhat counter-intuitively means standing still and taking a bit of damage when you could be running out of range.

And once you graduate into a WHM and get Holy at Lv45, you'll want to stay pretty close to the tank anyway so you can spam the enemies with AoE.
