I'm a controller player myself. Can heal/tank/dps just fine, flip flopping between xbars and hotbars mapped to my keyboard's number pad, and my trusty mouse for panning and all that.Yeah? Not what you said? Really?
Any healing job can heal through large pulls. Its a problem with the player not the tools if theyre struggling under decent conditions.
I play on controller and do plenty fine. Being on a controller isnt the issue. No one's considered new at level 71. People will be expecting you to play like a healer who's leveled manually to 71, whether you bought a job boost or not.
it has, the first google result tells me that provoke generates 350k worth of bonus enmity now at level 70.No, Provoke is still the same ability as before although I don't know if the enmity lead it gives you is specifically +1 or not. The ability hasn't undergone any functional changes, and is meant to be able to guarantee peeling a mob off of another player if they grab aggro. This mostly happens during a running pull these days. Tank swapping isn't really much of a thing anymore, but that's not because of any changes to Provoke or Shirk.
"Gesture threateningly, placing yourself at the top of a target's enmity list while gaining additional enmity."
It still doesn't change the fact that it's still a "put you at the top of the list plus some extra enmity" ability which is functionally identical to what it was before. 350k damage worth of enmity is just a larger window of extra enmity than before which just amounts to icing on the cake. Using it on cooldown for that unnecessary enmity gain might even potentially make it worse on the off chance it does happen to be needed like losing a mob during a running pull and it's still on cooldown.
I remember this one quite well
Saw a PF up for The Twinning and one tank that needed help running it so I decided to help not knowing what I got myself into.
15 seconds in he's pulling mobs with Holy spirit, using only holy spirit to attack, when he ran out of MP, he did single target attacks. He did this past the first boss, almost up to the 2nd boss. I asked him if he could use aoe attacks to keep mob aggro.. No response. Kept using Holy spirit. Next batch of mobs come.. Holy spirit... I had aggro for most of the dungeon run. Got to final boss.. This is where I lost my insanity. Boss mechanics happen, tank runs through frozen lasers, party gets hit with it, tank runs into another laser. Both DPS die. Im barely alive, I manage to get them both back up, tank runs into laser, he dies, I end up tanking, Im down to no MP. We wipe. Tank repeats this several times, I ask him to please not run through the lasers.. No Response. DPS are now starting to question their sanity. So one of the DPS had to brb, tank finally answers with a "ok"... I went silent. Did couple more pulls, tank still runs into lasers... End up calling Vote to abandon.. There have been times where I've dealt with struggle being an Astro but this story.. I still feel the cold chills down my spine when I think about it.
Issues with the tank are also valid as using cooldowns does not excuse other missteps on part of the tnk like over pulling, improper CD use, et cetera. The assumption that it meant "the tank didn't use any CDs" is 100% your assumption. SRSLY, look up the meaning to devil's advocateYeah? Not what you said? Really?

1) is like a problem because controller players have to use more inputs and maximizing divination can lead to ignoring the tank altogether
2) is the most plausible because the roles require different mentalities, and the most common occurrence because of returning players and the success of ShB. OMG, I've totally wiped a few parties that way
3) is basically life stuff, and... Srsly, just try healing with like a really high fever spiking mid-dungeon...

I have an honest and serious question, coming from somebody who has never played a PLD.I have to hard second this. I'm going to make a macro soon that basically says "if you waste GCD's on Clemency, I'll have to make up for your awful DPS by not healing you. Good luck." I outright refuse to heal a single time after I see a PLD cast Clemency. You're making things slower and being an obnoxiously bad player by using that if the healer is alive. I want no part in enabling that mindset.
Is Clemency really that bad compared to other similar abilities used by other jobs/roles? I can generally pop Second Wind and Bloodbath without virtually any dps loss.
Yeah, this can depend a lot on several factors that include: player ability/condition, connection speed, server stability, Playstation Network stability, et cetera. The controller setup alone has like a few issues including targeting non party members for healing as well, so it's not like there are zero issues with it. It's also possible that they auto tageted themselves, or just that inputs were not registering due to stability issues

Actually, it's really good, which is why PLD can clear a boss if they use it properly. It just becomes a habit after soloing fates and stuff

Well, Clemency is not a oGCD you can use freely between your rota, it's an GCD. Which means when you use Clemency you can't continue with your rotation in this time window, losing DPS.
So yeah, if possible let the healer do their job while you keep on AOE. It's usually faster that way - unless the healer can't keep you alive otherwise of course.

It depends.
I see a lot of tanks in dungeons that don't use CDs but spam Clemency instead so I just stop healing them and just dps
