    I once had a run of Steps if Faith where one of the tanks said don't use the cannons because our dps is better than them, and ignore the adds because the npc allies will take care of them. Me and someone else made sure to be on the cannons the whole time, and when we got to the second dragon killer, the tank went and fired it off before we could snare it. Vishap died not long after that, but still, how do you incorrectly know every mechanic?

    Yesterday, when I was running Labyrinth of the Ancients in order to complete my Warrior of Light tank set (I just needed the tank gauntlets), I came across a PLD who was an afker. While we engaged in battles up to the Bone Dragon, he either remained so far away he wasn't a part of the combat (right near the entrance so he purposely gets himself locked out) and after I called him out, just stood away from everyone inside the room as the gates went up and done nothing, only at last second to Circle of Scorn. OK, maybe he was just busy doing something. Then, we get to the boss, he pops all his defensive cds and, done nothing for the rest of the fight. With the Bone Dragon. Nothing, except auto attack.

    After we defeated the Bone Dragon, guess what, the tank gauntlets dropped. I asked politely if he could pass on it, didn't get a response, and I rolled. Turns out he got a 62, I got a 63. I was utterly relieved as my torture was finally over in Labyrinth, and that I beaten a person who afked his way through the run. Next, when we got to Atomos, he ran outside so he could be locked out of doing the boss. I had enough of him, let people know what he was doing and vote kicked him out.

    If you're going to afk, roll on loot and do nothing except be a millstone around our necks over other people who want to get in and contribute, you don't deserve to be able to run 24 man content. At all. If I lost my tank roll to him that made me unable to complete the set, this would be a much more negative post because a person who did no effort, got carried and got the reward.

    A couple days ago I got in a LotA as PLD, things were goin normally. We get to the Bone Dragon, one of my party members remarks that we'll probably die because of too many skeletons. Nother one say "nah" ...then we do, which was pretty funny. Then I DC, not so funny, not helped that my game completely closed because my internet decided to go down for 30 seconds. I get back in for 3 seconds, just in time to seee my dead body get kicked.

    Which I laughed it off, till it took four days to get into another one because of over an hour que times and the ones that pop having someone decide "nah, lets not do what I que'd for."

    There's really no 'correct' way per se. You give a commendation to someone who did something well, or something nice, or just being a cool person. You define the parameters for yourself(if you want to at all), but ultimately, I feel it's just a simple way of saying you appreciate something they did and do not take it for granted.

    Hmmm...

    You automatically spawn under one of your party members and they get to use you as a skateboard on the ride down? XD

    When you get used to doing the wrong thing for so long it just feels right.

    So as of...night before last, I started Alex Midas. Anyways, I needed my drop from A5, so a friend (MNK) and I (BRD) queued for it. I've only ran it maybe two or three times before this, and I was still trying to learn certain aspects of it and really get it down.

    Anyways, my friend usually took care of the bombs, and I'd never had to before. He'd explained it to me, but having never tried it, I still wasn't quite sure (I only really learn by doing). Well, we're going through the last boss like usual, and I'm focused on my little rotation I've been working on (and watching my DoTs), and apparently one of the healers was grabbing the bombs (didn't know this). Well another DPS started yelling at me about not doing mechanics and how I needed to do my job and stuff, and my friend spoke up and told him I was still relatively new to Midas and still learning mechanics. This DPS's response was: "Well it's been out three weeks and it isn't hard so that's no excuse." And then continued to yell at me the rest of the raid even though we didn't wipe or anything (yeah some of us died but I don't think that was even from the bombs...not sure though).

    I try really hard to be good at any job I'm doing, be it healer, DPS, or tank, and I always try to follow mechanics in dungeons even if myself/the party can survive without doing so. But I have to do a couple runs of dungeons/raids to really get stuff down, and since we kinda just blew through A5-A8 two nights ago, and then I didn't do them again until a few hours ago, I forgot some things. I know if I had handled the bombs and somehow messed them up, I would have gotten yelled at anyways, but it's stuff like this that just makes me not even want to try raids at all. Because people expect everyone to do these things the moment they're released, or they just expect you to know automatically all the mechanics and how to do them.

    I know now what to do with bombs, and I told my friend I will just try harder next time, but he still said it was unfair of the other DPS to stand and yell at me when he could have just as easily grabbed bombs too. I know it's better for ranged to do it, but...idk. Just really put me down after I'd been having a good time casually raiding with friends.

    I'll just keep trying harder.

    I think a lot of us know exactly what you're talking about. There's no need to put on a such a strong front, some people are just like that unfortunately. Don't dwell on them. Like you I'm also the type of person who learns by making the mistakes first-hand. I vividly remember being yelled at on the first day 3.2 was out, when I attempted Midas NM. Such a delightful experience. The amount of time any content has been available is not what matters, but rather if there is a new player to said content or not. Just because content has been available for a long time does not automatically mean everyone and their mother will know what to do. Such expectations are unreasonable and doesn't correspond with reality.

    Hold on to your awesome friend. And I hope life throws you a few lemons to brighten up your day! :>

    Was in Midas 2 this week with a friend and I was MT. Before each boss I stopped for a moment to type out short reminders. Things like stack for double lasers and red up purple down. For some reason the OT and a DPS decided to team up on me and type snide comments about how everyone already knows the fights and how I must assume everyone in DF is an idiot. I did not reply but they continued to harrass me the entire time while letting me continue to MT without suggesting some else do it. I would like to note that only two deaths occurred during the duty and both were my own. The first time because the OT (the one bugging me) didn't voke the boss off me after several stacks despite my reminder and the second from ultra flash because I accidentally pressed enter and had wwwwwwwww going on instead of running. They commented that my rude reminding of others had backfired. I was just being helpful, so yes it does seem duty funder has its share of idiots.

    *grumbles* Everyone's in a place for the first time at some point. And while it's good to understand the basics of mechanics before going into 8-man stuff that's been out a while (whether through a friend's explanation, like you, or through reading/watching explanations), explanations often don't make 100% sense before you see it. And it can take a couple of goes before you feel "comfortable" with how things go. Also, I don't count three weeks as long enough to need to "watch a video". But when going in with mostly strangers, it can be more efficient to at least know the basics. Personally, I prefer to go in blind with friends the first times ^^;

    As for who does that mechanic... When I go in with my friends, I'm usually the one running to do those bombs, and I'm the OT xD So no, it doesn't have to be a ranged DPS. Of course, when one particular BLM friend is with us, he demands to get that job, so I just jump in to help when there's three of them. I've also heard groups state that it's one of the healer's jobs to do them, but in our group, that doesn't work xD because one of our healers is really, really fond of gorillas, so he'll just be all "OMG OMG LOOK AT ME I'M SO PRETTY" and bounce around in circles.

    But yeah, I don't often do Midas with more than one or two randoms ^^;

    Had a fun experience with M4 yesterday, actually. Got a co-tank who had no concept of tankswaps. Tried to grab the boss after the first ray+debuff, he wouldn't let me and kept bashing at it. I'd grab it for a second or two, and then his next BB/RoH (forget if it was a WAR or a PLD) landed, and... yeah. He barely survived that time, but the next time... he died. I scrambled to control the situation, but the tank in turn refused to grab it back at the next ray+debuff and preferred to let me die -_-

    Well, good thing that was the last of them, because that left me as OT when it comes to sharing damage during the last bit of it. I... definitely wouldn't have trusted him to do the same for me.
