I went into a Zurvan Ex birb farm with 8 people unsynced and somehow managed to be the last man standing. Twice.
Like you literally need to make an effort to wipe on that fight, what the actual hell.

It appears that they do, thank you! I'll set up a keybind to mute system sounds so I can just toggle them off for the run when people go spamming soundeffects for perfectly no reason.
That's the annoying part, they did a 5 second countdown and decided to make it worse by macroing a simultaneous countdown with soundeffects into the chat. Like guy, we can see the numbers on the screen just fine, no need to give us a migraine.
Queue into normal raid roulette, get O11N, no worries. Other tank is a DRK with like 10k less HP than I so I throw on that Grit even though I've tanked that fight exclusively in Darkside before, it's a nice gesture.
First tankbuster, toss up a TBN and I already had something up, RDM even used Apocatastasis, good on him for not being like the bajillion useless DF RDM's. At this point it is starting to become apparent the healers aren't doing beans, so come the next tankbuster I'm down to Living Dead and TBN. Should've used the latter, but survived with the former just barely. A Benediction from the WHM would've been sick, but instead I die to an auto. Other DRK isn't fairing so well and a MNK was doing most of the tanking until the other DRK finally gets aggro, only to die and I grab the boss, do some things then comes Level Checker. Healers were actually doing more to keep that MNK alive than either tank.
Wipe not long after Level Checker, I actually died to Walking Dead. Always embarrassing when that happens, but not sure for who. The healer or me because it's my own kit and it killed me.
Next pull, invuln the second tankbuster, Walking Dead is dismissed at two seconds left, like what are these healers even using? I definitely saw a Helios from the AST, I don't know about this WHM. Healer LB3 doesn't even save the run, another wipe, I take my penalty.
This morning decided to do 50/60 roulette for some poetics, get Lost City of Amdapor. I don't remember this dungeon, but the music is nice. NIN says they're new, whatever, WHM is probably new as well given their AF1 gear, didn't scope the MCH.
Everything is going pretty good until the first boss. NIN opened a chest on the way there, so my first memory jog was when a Mimic slowly wanders into the boss room. went to grab it, but it already started wrecking everyone, myself included. MCH gets eaten by the boss, I thought we'd be wiping, so sorry mate, I'd have saved you otherwise. Anywho, WHM picks me up and we duo the boss. Diabolos' Ruinous Omen hurt because I sure didn't remember the door thing for the first one, but got it the second time and still downed it.
Admire that WHM dedication to the first boss 'cause I was certainly ready to call it a wipe, but they kept me alive, threw some rocks and we got through it just the two of us.
Holy shit that Orbonne run was a nightmare... There's too much to really say except that it kinda proves to me that RDM's are either REALLY damn good at what they do or allergic to staying within healing range. One spent a good portion of his time dual-casting raise on the team mates we had that wanted to eat constant AOE's, and seriously dude if you read this you forever have my comms in any duty we get together, and the other literally went out of his way each time he was raised (I stopped counting after the seventh death) to go out of heal range and DPS. Where he would inevitably eat another AOE and die. Die -> Rez -> LET'S RUN OUT OF RANGE. CONSTANTLY. Thankfully he didn't try to say anything in chat but it almost made me wish Rescue had a shorter cool down. Seriously, what is it with RDM's and doing this? This isn't the first nor the last RDM I've been queued with who seems to break out in hives if they're standing too close to the healers.
Also... When we have two scholar's and you stick with Eos... Maybe use her? Please? I'm okay using Selene if someone wants to keep using Eos, but when the first Whispering Dawn I see the entire raid comes out /after/ I switch to Eos in frustration things are a little side eye worthy. It was fine after that but I didn't dare go back to Selene since people kept on eating the AoE's from that point onward.
Every fucking day.
EVERY FUCKING DAY IN MAINSTORY ROULETTE.
SAME TWO DUNGEONS.
NOBODY KNOWS HOW TO FUCKING BEHAVE.
STOP TRYING TO GET ME TO MAIN TANK.
I swear to the gods damned 12 I want to split the world open and plunge myself so far down i'll create an 8th hell just for me BECAUSE EVEN THAT SOUNDS MORE ENJOYABLE.
OUR RAGE IS IMMESURABLE AND OUR DAY IS NEVER NOT RUINED.
Well...that's not something you see every day. A DPS(me on SAM) with almost 4k more HP than the tank(random DRK)...in Hells Lid. Only noticed it after the second boss because everyone else(WHM and RDM were the other two) died, and the boss had 30% HP left. Thankfully he was in the midst of a casting frenzy, so he actually didn't directly attack me and all his attacks I could dodge, so I ended up burning him down using Second Wind once(took an unavoidable AoE right as I noticed WHM and RDM were down), and throwing up Bloodbath to help...was about to use a potion too, but the boss died just as I was going to use it.
Right after that fight, I looked at the DRKs gear...highest stuff was 340(mostly accessories, their left side was 310-320 gear for the most part)...while I'm rocking almost all i400 stuff(only missing 1 ring - still 380, my Katana - 390, and bracelet - 380)....the definitely explained the squishy tank...other than that bunch of deaths on the second boss, it was a good run.
Well I'm here to post my horror story cause I just suck at being a tank. I dunno why in my awesome wisdom I choose to level a warrior as my FIRST job. Like apparently I knew what the big deal was clearly. I get to omega normal 3 where you fight omega himself right? I haven't done these fights and it's my first time as I'm unlocking them. I still need to clear the last 2 normal fights but here we go. I tell everyone I'm new and new to tanking, hoping like all my other runs in the 8 mans the more adult and expereinced tank will take the lead. Well the other tank does but come to find out he's new too. After 2 wipes I notice I oddly enough out gear him and I main tank. need I remind myself I never tanked this before so we wipe two more times cause look. I got to 70 3 months ago and life happened to me hardcore. Homeless and looking for a place in that time. I did like ONE dungeon before my life got twisted upside down. So in my new place and back to gaming and where I left off.. point in me explaining that to you? Simple. I have NO idea how to tank these fights and I'm close to leveling a dps cause I REALLY hate pissing people off in runs. We had to disband cause we wiped a total of 6 times. So yeah, if anyone wanted to scream at the tiny au ra tank today named Cammi that's me, I'm sorry, I'm trying.. but I'm stupid and out of practice. Forgive me? Please?
There there, don't be so hard on yourself
u did your best with what u had.My first time tanking Alphascape V 3.0 Normal(or o11n for short) was not much different as we had wiped 3 or 4 times before I cleared and I had to MT it back in the day.I was no expert by any means and I was a fledgling dark knight .Thankfully the party I had back when were understanding enough.
If the party u got didn't try to understand your predicament then they do share a bigger part of the blame especially if some of them happened to be mentors. The best thing they could do at the very least is tell u about the different skills and defensive cooldowns that u could use.
You're not stupid,we've all been there before as tanks and anyone who claim their first outings as tank were perfect from the word go are lying
I can help u with omega if u want since we're both on aether datacenter and we can do a cross-world party if u want ^_^
D'aww, I got called a great mentor by a trio of people in Pharos Hard. Gives the warm fuzzies. ^v^
Such a great group to guide too, they picked up on mechanics so well you'd think all three had run it a hundred times before.
Had an interesting run of Amdapor HM as a SCH the other day.
On the last boss, Ferdiad, and he uses Suppuration (traps a member in a slime add so they cannot move) on me. Dps fail to attack the slime at all, boss cleaves me and we wipe. This happens a 2nd time. One of the dps says "You need to move behind the boss with us for that cleave."
I'm just thinking...
So I tell them "I can't move because the slime add has me trapped, you need to kill it asap."
"Ok" they say. 3rd time, both dps stand in the blue spinning scythes that he throws and die to them, multiple times. So I spend most of the fight resurrecting them. Only to be slimed and die again. /facepalm
Tank leaves at this point. I explain they need to move from the scythes. New tank comes and we finally win. Yay! Thing is though, we didn't get the "One or more party members are new to this duty" message, which is mind boggling!
