More adventures on RDM:
Got tired of long queue times and dragged a few healer friends along for the ride.
Last night ran Sohm Al hard and had another rdm in the party, a friend was on whm. Whm friend dies to the first boss' spore aoes due to lag, and I switch to spamming vercure on the rest of the party. Other rdm only bothers to heal herself a few times but doesn't bother to use her melee combos even though it would have made things much faster. Once we down the boss, we continue on and I realize I was the only one using enchanted moulinet on large groups of mobs throughout the entire dungeon sans bosses. I felt sad.
Had a shire SAM in Sohm Al Hard with strangely enough a proto-omega ring not manage not only their combos (I never once saw any boosted Midares or Higabanas), they could not manage their enmity and would attack targets that had not been properly aggroed by the pld tank. However they really seemed to like spamming non-boosted Tenka Goken. The pld tank, though, did seem to like to pull while my healer friend had to afk for a bit at the worm section. So more vercure flinging.
Had a war tank in Baelsar's Wall that almost got himself killed mass-pulling due to stance-dancing near the start of the dungeon. Same party we also had a brd that did not bother with Refresh or Tactician throughout the entire dungeon, just Peloton spam and the occasional crit song/foes. Same said brd also not only got stunned with flash powder on the final boss each time, but would not bother to attack the collar that always hits the healer.
Even when I pointed it out before the boss. Thankfully the tank was on-point and I had to burn melee combos to bust it.
I died vercuring my healer friend when he did his roomwide aoe at the end, but it was worth.
That is why since pretty much day 1 i have always waited off the lift until the last person is on, so if someone does not wanna wait at least the person left behind is not alone. Doesn't happen as much now that you have to watch cutscenes, but i still do it.Nothing, NOTHING makes me more angry then leaving people at the lift. That is just a dick move. You can run ahead for the rest of it but if you do that (with the lift), you are a troll. You know exactly what you are getting into when you que for MSQ, unlike spouts who are doing this for the first time. There is no speedrun for MSQ anymore and if you have someone using the disconnect glitch and pulling before the group can get there, Report. There's plenty of other roulettes that give the same if lesser benefits. Those duties are major events that define the players experience for the rest of the game and the entire reason you cant even skip in a fully preformed party now is because of all the callous speedrunning. Ug.
It's been a week of overpulling tanks and under-AoEing DPS.
Round 1: Tam-Tara hard mode. I'm not certain if the melee DPS people were AoEing or not, but the tank liked to double-pull and then things were slow to die.
Round 2: Ala Mhigo with a tank trying to pull wall-to-wall, and a bard who didn't use Rain of Death once.
Absolute worst moment: after the first boss, the tank picks up not only the two small packs of Avenger-and-support-soldiers, but keeps going down the stairs to that massive pack of pugnaxes (pugnaces?) that are bad enough on their own. I'm trying to heal, and Holy-stun, and place an Asylum bubble, and dodge airship missiles all at once.... and funnily enough, we wipe. At least he slowed down somewhat after that.
Round 3: Wanderer's Palace. This time we have a BLM so I can watch the cast bar... as Fire 1 gets used on a pack of ten enemies and the tonberry stalker draws ever closer. ;__;
According to my 5 months of Latin, pugnaces looks right. :P
That said, I have seen that massive pull done successfully (even back when Ala Mhigo was current content), but it took both the tank and healer being aware of the pull coming and being on the ball (heck, I wouldn't even consider it without having Hallowed available for the start of it), and the DPS had to be going maximum ham with AoE (think there was always an AoE LB used for that too). With a no-Rain Bard that just wasn't going to work out.
I often wonder if my Squadron complains about my heals as they sit there in their little room.
"Seven Hells" the Roe tank swears as he stares into his ale "that healer was so bad he even forgot to turn on Diurnal that run"
"He was the worst" the Lala BLM mutters in agreement "all he would do was press attack, attack, attack, I could count the number of times he did a Benefic on one hand"
The Lala archer laughs and shakes her head "and he would constantly run ahead of the rest of us, what a scrub"

Gotta love wars who seriously only over power big pulls and suck so much on tp that when you goad them it looks like it's doing nothing. Had the same war for leveling today that I got yesterday. Yesterday was Shisui so they had more to use and even if I or the other dps from yesterday held off or used diversion the tank would still lose hate. Today was AV with a never done it smn and sch. I gave advice throughout the run but again the war would overpower til they were almost out of tp before they'd start in on their hate combo. I'm not even sure today or yesterday they even used any cooldowns. Though they did use Holmgang once grabbing the whole room after the 2nd boss without the healer because they died and had just been raised.
Then another war on my 50/60 today felt like pulling everything without asking with me on sam and with a mnk felt it was an ok deal in Amdapor Keep. It might have been an alt but they did get the map achivement, but again when you goad the tank and it feels like you didn't. Also on the first pull they almost died and would have if they hadn't holmganged in time. I'm so glad I only have four more levels before I'm stuck doing only eureka and leveling my doh/dol.
I think this is what ticks me off so much about the "tank/healer dps" mentality.
It's not that I disagree with the concept. Even in EX primals I spend 50-75% of my time DPSing - provided I don't need to heal. That's where the issue lies. Tank stance-dancing and healer DPS are hugely valuable skills - and that's exactly what they are. Skills. The ability to do both. You're no use if you're a healer that does nothing but DPS and never touches your heals. You're no use if you're a tank that doesn't actually use your defensive cooldowns when you're taking tankbusters. And you're certainly not good in either of those situations. A good healer knows how to use their prep skills (succor, adlo, earthly star, medica II, sacred soil, asylum, confessions, etc) so that they can then focus on DPSing. A good tank knows that there are some tankbusters you actually do have to switch oaths for and use cooldowns. Going full-ham DPS just shows that you don't understand how to use your skills.
