I haven't actually recognized myself in any posts here, but I have seen a few things that made me think, "Oh, I guess I really need to work on that." This is a really helpful thread!

It has links to YooToob videos of how to do each dungeon. When the MSQ brings me to a dungeon or trial, I like to go there and watch the linked videos so I don't embarrass myself too badly. Sometimes this actually works!

To add on, I have a quick reference guide that I found on reddit. It's pretty useful if you need it - it's updated to 4.4 as well. I just use it personally if its someplace I haven't been to and need a quick refresher on mechanics.

I had two players harass a party member because they were having a hard time with the last boss mechanics. They actually degraded this player. When I reported this harassment to the support desk they did nothing because "I was not the one who was offended." I feel that this is a huge problem that needs to be dealt with! No matter who reports this kind of behavior, it need to be addressed! By the way their second reply to me was to post on the forms with what happened and suggest fixes so I am. One fix is that a GM should be able to take any report of harassment and investigate the claim. If it is a merited claim then it should be handled appropriately. I know the GMs are very busy and many factors have to be considered for any report. I just wish that Square-Enix will consider this and make some changes to how a report can be handled. I do not care about the two harassers, they are just two people somewhere on the planet who just had a bad attitude within the game and think that since they were on a different server would not have consequences for their actions. This is just the ugly beast that is the internet. I hope this counts for this forum and if not just please delete and let me writing this be my vent of the problem. Thanks, Squirrel Fist

If you’re not tanking trash packs, don’t switch to Shield.

But really there’s no way for a paladin to not main tank at level 50 except against another Paladin. (Exception: if the paladin is outgeared enough that shirk gives you enough of a lead to hold hate until shirk is back up) Threat combo multipliers are several hundred percent per swing whereas Defiance is 20%. If you have a paladin in your party at level 50, the only way you’re holding hate off of them is if you mash butcher’s block combo, and that just sounds miserable.

Anywhere outside this narrow level 50 paladin scenario though, yes, people who still get all tingly over the sound of being “main tank” and will essentially troll their co-tank by fighting for aggro are silly.

In the Leviathan case, I already had aggro. I watched them as they switched to sword oath, and I watched as they swap back into Shield on my 3rd GCD, hit provoke, and began fighting with me for aggro. Perhaps I'm reading a bit too much into this, but sounds like there's an implication that I am somehow...wrong? When I already established hate for at least 3 GCDs and was under the belief that the PLD was going to stay in sword and not provoke the boss off me when I wasn't expecting it?

Unfortunately "actually degrading" players is not that uncommon in dungeons. Not to say that the majority of FF14 players are toxic, but you are bound to run into some eventually. That's part of the reason this very thread exists: it's less of a 'feedback' thread and more of a place to do the venting that is so desperately needed, as you yourself have mentioned.

As for your specific case, I can see where the GMs are coming from. Sometimes friends like to give each other sh*t in chat and it can be hard for an outsider to distinguish this from actual harassment. I am certainly not suggesting this was the case with your group (I wasn't there so I can't form an opinion one way or the other) but such situations do happen and I imagine that is at least partially responsible for the current policy. If the target of the harassment isn't bothered by it enough to file a report, then I wouldn't expect a GM to step in unless there was some other breach in the ToS as well; such as racism, foul language, or mention of parsers. Be that as it may, you shouldn't be discouraged from comforting and/or standing up for someone who you think is being needlessly attacked. Maybe gently remind them that that reporting the harassers is an option that is open to them.

Nah, I’m pretty sure you read this scenario right. I mean I wasn’t there but it sounds like they weren’t helping at best. They certainly should have communicated. But you still would’ve lost hate within a few rotations unless you outgeared them a lot of rode threat combos like crazy, which I don’t think would have been very fun either. I was more just stressing this problem with 50 PLD since you did open by saying as a WAR you were the one built to MT. That’s true at higher levels but at 50, the best choice was to let the PLD keep it. Possible after you did an Unchained opener and he provoked/you shirked for a big threat lead.

Hmm... I knew it was a strange omen when normal raid roulette said DPS in need...

Queue in as RDM. Our BLM was literally useless as he did nothing for most of the fight. Healers also immediately died to judgement nisi. Even when I queue as a DPS I end up being the healer since I can't raise in 60 content.

Queued into v12n to help a friend get a shaft for glamours, and my co-healer ended up being someone who “queued into this as a healer on accident”. Queue basically solo-healing. And queue zero comms for it.

If you are the kind of person who thinks it's funny to remove markers everytime they're set in order to guide players, whether they are new or not (for example during add phases in Ridorana), I will slap you with the alphabet you D-1-C.
