Or just do it with voke shirk like you're supposed to. PLD should never be in ShO.That is the sign of a bad OT. Their job is literally to be in second threat, even in normal. All it would take that PLD is maybe 5 seconds to pop into Shield Oath, do enmity, then switch back into Sword. I'm not even sure why they would care about their deeps in regular trials anyways. It isn't as if they could pull the same crap off in Ex either.
Some don't carry shirk in their kit, especially if they queued for leveling and got Lakshmi. Sure, they could easily have just swapped role actions, but this is the DF we are talking about...
I'm fairly sure that outside of the normal mode ifrit, titan and garuda all the story primals are in trial roulette. And even if I'm somehow mistaken here which I'm pretty sure I'm not, it would take them just a few seconds to switch one of their role skills for shirk.
Actually, iiuc, for threat maintenance on the OT, u need to "circle shirk" (OT shirk=>voke, MT shirk=>voke), but that requires more coordination than most DF tank pairs will have. Doing a "voke=>shirk" combo can actually push you below second threat in some cases (undergeared OT, for example).

Responding to all 3- as someone who progressed in pugs as a PLD OT.You don't need tank stance to keep second threat, nor do you need a single threat combo. You simply need to cast voke during the tankbuster cast, you can then shirk after the cleave goes out. The cleave comes immediately after. it worked for me no problems for the 15+ clears I needed to get all of my accessories.
Just a awful PLD in DF.
Just to add to the myriad of other replies to this post - that tank was bad and he should feel ashamed for sassing like that.
I know enmity is a team thing but if the RDM is popping their enmity tools consistently and still riding #2 hate, the only way for said RDM to reduce their hate is to DPS LESS.
... so essentially the PLD is telling a DPS to DPS less because they can't be bothered to try to do their role as an OT and get targeted and eat OT cleaves.
>>;....
I'd say cross world black list them and move on! And sorry you had to deal with that.
Also, the PLD in question may have had lower ilvl than you but don't forget because it's a story line trial synced to level 68. There's an ilvl sync there probably to around 285 which is between Doma and Castrum Abania. Therefore they were in "capped gear" for all intents and purposes and should've had no trouble holding hate on you.
On the topic of OT threat level, whenever I am OT, I ensure that I have that #2 spot locked down(usually by popping into Deliverance/Shield Oath/Grit for a combo or two) shortly after the MT locks down their #1 spot.
From the OT perspective, I feel if a tank wants to go from being an okay tank to a good / excellent tank, they need to be very cognisant of the differing fight mechanics and what their responsibilities are for that particular fight. This can range from:
- No additional effort needed (Enter DPS Stance and GO IN) [O5, O8]
- When it's necessary to pick up Add Spawns / tank mechanics [Sussano, O7]
- Tank Swap [Shinryu EX, Sussano EX]
- Maintain #2 Hate for OT mechanics [Lakshmi, Byakko]
Just because you aren't MTing the fight doesn't mean you don't have a responsibility and showing that you understand those responsibilities will show you're a better player than many.
[edit] Not to say an off-tank should know these things immediately when entering a fight, but they should be actively looking to ensure that things meant to be completed by an off-tank is well... completed by an off-tank. They should be actively striving to complete their role and responsibilites.

Okay, I usually don't feel anything would be worthy of a read on here compared to other things that have happened to you all. However, last night I thought this might be a funny read. I was helping a leaf player with getting a clear on Leviathan. I rolled NIN and my pal rolled WAR. We get in and start going through the normal motions of the trial. Then the MT "who was DRK" started yelling "STOP ATTACKING!" and then shortly after and to the T "NINA PAY ATTENTION STOP ATTACKING!!" At this point I was attacking the gyro sphere things, and was also the only ninja. He they yells again "STOP ATTACKING LEVI!!!!". At this point I'm totally confused because I'm not attacking Levi and stop attacking altogether and just write back, "but I AM paying attention O_o". At this point Levi had just jumped onto the boat to make it tip over and someone else points out in chat saying "dude you needa chill, this isn't even that hard". So fast forward to the end of the duty and I tell him dude this is not hard at all. He quickly leaves and I'm just sooooo confused at this point. I double check at the party to see if there was another ninja, nope! BUT! then I see it...it was someone else...Her name was Nina! I busted out laughing so hard, not at her but at the fact that I'm always referred to as Nin or Ninja. I saw "NINA" and thought he just forgot the (J). Poor Nina, if you ever come across this, I'm sure you weren't doing bad at all. And last but not least...the kicker? It was Levi normal!!!!

Oh wow, vote abandon on Cutter's Cry. That's new. A sprout AST and BLM (who also had HW jobs open), and a ninja. Me on WAR.
Now, I'm a little tired and didn't pay attention to the team comp and for whatever reason by the time we reached Chimera I, for whatever reason, had started thinking everyone is ranged. The BLM took every dragon voice, the healer prioritised BLM over himself so the healer ended up kicking the bucket before the BLM (who kicked the bucket soon after). I've cleared this from like 60 % before with just a BRD and WAR so I thought alright, we gonna own this trick but as I somehow didn't pay attention to the fact they are melee I left the chimera's butt covered in ice, the ninja also died to something and then I went and got caught in a paralysis which ended up getting me caught in ram voices.
During the fight after dying healer tells BLM to try avoiding the dmg. Ninja tells me it's harder to do with how I'm tanking it which after a little brainwork made me finally realize they're melee and I apologise and expect we'll just go and handle it now like it's business as usual. The healer DC's. We give her plenty of time to get back. Vote kick and look for replacement. 50 minutes left on the clock a vote abandon happens and passes. Just... wow. I'll give them a benefit of doupt but that sure seemed like a ragequit on the healers part to me.
Also I queued again and landed in Shisui where the map was acting... weirdly. For every other player there was another dot on the map too like there were 7 players in the instance. I didn't realize to try howering over them but I already missed an extra add spawn with screenshots so I don't think standing around more would've been amusing for the others anyway.
EDIT: Why is there this ridiculous 1000 mark limit on this forum? It's not like 2000 symbols is too long of a message on a forum.
