The last time something like that happened to me, was during Sirensong the other day. I was on SCH, friend on WAR and we got a MNK and a RDM. The RDM was going ham but the MNK was single-targetting. His TP was pretty much at full. I called him out 3 times and got answered with a /slap emote. After we killed the second boss, I requested a vote kick before someone could open the chest. We got a SAM, which asked what happened and I told him "MNK was allergic to do AoE moves", and this SAM was melting stuff.
Unfortunately there's been this longstanding stigma in the community that while Monks (and now Samurai) are great at single target attacking, they have no aoe potential. I can't count the number of dungeons I went into as Monk that started with the tank giving the "Oh, we got a Monk. Looks like no aoes" speech, only to be shocked when I was melting packs of mobs from the continuous aoe blasting. This of course leads to people single targeting packs thinking they're doing better that way. I dunno if the community as a whole will ever get over the notion that Monks area only for single targeting.

Ok, a little more of a response. One, ive died before. Many times. When i get bored i sometimes try to solo things i dont think i can beat just to see how close i am. If i win, i move on to something harder and try again. This has resulted in many deaths, and some surprising victories. Two, ive also died specifically in dungeons before. Healer pulled aggro at a bad time for either the tank or someone like me to try and save them? Dead. I didnt dodge fast enough(and sometimes server latency) and ate the wrong attack? Dead. Tank/healer gets disconnected and we try the next pull anyway which doesnt go well? Dead. Tank pulling too big and overwhelming the group(the exact scenario given)? Been there, done that. Three, the penalty for death is essentially nothing. We lost a little time and have to try again? No big deal. Someone gives up and leaves? Odds are they were part of the problem anyway. My repair bill is a little higher? Ive got all crafting and gathering classes leveled to 70(i can do my own repairs and make money), i already paid for my mansion and did my decorating, and im still sitting on like 50mil with nothing left to spend it on. An extra couple thousand gil on a repair bill is literally beneath my notice. Four, its a video game. Self explanatory.

And i meant what i said, id enjoy the challenge of avoiding all the trash attacks while juggling 3 bosses mechanics at once. I might not do that run every day, but id sign up to try it out in a heartbeat. Another one for my "can i do it" list. Dont get me wrong, im not one of those DPS who try to tell tanks and healers how to play(though i will try to offer advice if they genuinely dont seem to know how). I can do a leisurely run if thats what the group wants, i can chat between pulls to fit in more, i can try to lazer-focus my AoE rotation to its tightest point. Whatever fits works for me.

Yep, it's possible. I saw it once after the Ultimate Coil clears started happening. It was after reset, one person had the golden bow, and we barely beat both those snake adds and the towers.

I'm glad you and the one other forum member had a good run. =)

Sooo... Qued for 70 roulette as healer and got PiP'd into an instance with 25 minutes elapsed. I figure hey, this is either going to be really interesting or someone DC'd during the final boss.

It ending up being interesting. Because the group wasn't even at the SECOND BOSS and I don't even bother asking what's wrong because in a few seconds it becomes glaringly apparent. The tank cannot hold enmity. For more than 10 seconds. The DPS are a BLM and a Bard and the Tank is a PLD and the only thing I notice about their performance is that they are not using Flash. Like at all. But the BLM consistently pulls enmity from him (BLM is in mostly augmented Creation gear--Tank is in nearly full 250 gear with some 260 mixed in). I'm not sure what the BRD is wearing but I'm in fairly low level gear myself (I have a Byakko weapon) and I'm pulling enmity off too. The second boss gets to it's 2nd add phase before it dies, I'm not sure why this is but the BLM was using the correct rotation and the BRD was at the very least pulling out the stops (it's hard for me to tell if they are doing the correct BRD rotation since I just learned it recently myself). The PLD at least had the decency to pull smalls and the enmity shifts were easily accounted for. Despite the enmity issues on the mobs, we get thru the dungeon without incident. I give my comm to the BLM (cause he was doing it right) and leave.

I am completely at a loss as to how 25 minutes elapsed in there. Unless they were waiting a long ass time for a Healer to have Party in Progress on. If it had been a complete train wreck I could have seen it but it wasn't even that bad. BLM was using his enmity stuff (and Manaward when that wasn't available) and BRD hardly pulled enmity at all. PLD lost enmity almost exclusively on trash but did fine in boss fights. @_@ Weirdest Roulette I've had in a while

Leveling my alt on Balmung only reminded me how much I hate the dungeons before you get to 50. >_>

I did leveling roulette for some sweet exp, and was put into Sastasha. Sastasha is super boring as is but it'd only be like 15 minutes-- and easy, right? I get put into a party where two of the players, a BLM and a GLD, were both from Zalera. I didn't think anything of it at the time. First pull goes standard, then the BLM starts running ahead and pulling for the tank. They're both sprouts so I assume: A) DPS is pulling because they're new and/or impatient or B) the tank is having trouble keeping aggro because they're learning.

Yeah, no. I honestly thought the tank was just having a hard time and the BLM was just being rude by rushing them. NOPE, this was entirely intentional on their part. They'd queued together.

I asked the BLM to please stop pulling for the tank. I was ignored and they kept doing it. So I did the mean thing and didn't heal them. They died after a few pulls. Almost as soon as they died, they go "Where's our healer?" I answer with "When you stop pulling, I will heal."

They then demanded a revive, followed by calling me "an ugly black bitch." For the record, the character I was on at the time is dark skinned so you know, casual racism. Why not. GLD added onto this, casually mentioning that their friend would be tanking Sastasha.

I ended up staying to the end despite nearly abandoning right then and there. And this pattern continued. The GLD would grab enemy attention, then do nothing but auto attack while the BLM took aggro. Of course, this meant aggro bounced back and forth between the entire party. Imagine having to heal a DPS with low level armor who insists on tanking. Yeah, the enemies were going through them like tissue paper.

This was a super frustrating experience-- one of the worst ones I've had in a while. Luckily my character hit 50 tonight so maybe it'll be better going forward.

Was levelling Astro, and saw healer bonus go up for levelling roulette.

Like Namallama above, ended up in Sastasha.

First hint something was up, the tank (gladiator) had the lowest HP in the entire party. Everyone else was level synced, so it was possible the discrepancy was due to a a big gap in ilvl. But then the mobs proceeded to eat through the tank like a wet paper bag, and they lost aggro to the machinist. I checked their gear.

I've been in parties where the tank forgot their soulstones. I've been in parties where some of the gear isn't up to par. But I'm absolutely certain this is the first time I've seen a tank in a dungeon wearing gathering gear. They also didn't know to use flash, wanted to fight every last mob in the dungeon, and we ended up playing enmity roulette the entire time. The poor machinist ended up doing more tanking than the tank, and was running in circles with the mobs chasing them, and died twice since I couldn't heal fast enough. And they didn't have the excuse of being a new player either; the new player bonus didn't pop and they weren't a sprout. I was on a controller, and tried my best to talk to them, but they usually ended up running ahead and pulling while I was busy typing, and I would panic and drop everything to try catch up and keep them alive.

I've never felt so relieved to finish a dungeon before. I also don't want to heal again for a week.

I finally found a new raid team that I could actually make the schedule for. I decided to help out one of the healers with expert roulette. I will preface this by saying that most of my roulette runs are largely uneventful, and if anything, are typically speedrun affairs because 8k+ AoE/5k+ single target DPS Bard is absurd enough alone. Now, THIS run, on the other hand, had nothing to with apparent DPS problems, and more to do with my healer raider friend's apparent terrible luck.

We ended up with a DRK in Fractal HM that for some reason kept typing throughout the entire run. My healer friend was like 'are you typing while fighting?' We got the typical 'get gud, I can type and fight at the same time (he says while getting hit by avoidable AoEs), YOU DON'T PAY MY SUB' sort of responses. We shrugged and were like 'kay.'

AND THEN after the first boss was taken down in usual fashion, the tank went into full blown RP mode the rest of the dungeon. Like, weird fetish crap with the monsters, a little too explicit to even describe here. Amusingly enough, I noted that my silent co-DPS's actual DPS skyrocketed afterwards, like they really wanted to get out of there ASAP.

My new healer friend said she was a magnet for the weird stuff, and now I completely believe her.

This happened a while ago also in Sastasha. Tank wouldn't tank and the THM kept pulling. Healer was going bonkers when the tank refused to Flash. After myself and the healer stopped and told the tank to either start tanking or get kicked, he left after telling us we have destroyed his confidence. The THM turned out to be his brother and let loose at us for bullying him.

The Healer brought in a Tank and a DRG joined in, but if it wasn't for me needing the Roulette bonus, I would've hightailed out of there a lot sooner.

This is very, very old, but I recently remembered one time back when I was still a sprout and running Toto-Rak for the first time and the tank kept cursing me out for not "using bane to spread the dots" before using ruin on stuff. I was around level 25 (bane is level 30) and had no idea what they were on about but I was so scared of being yelled at again after that I just manual casted all of my dots on everything for the rest of the dungeon, no ruins.

Now as someone who's been playing nearly 3 years I've learned its always best to ask if the skill other players aren't using is unlocked or not first if its from a toolkit I'm not familiar with.
