Oh, I have a happy story!
DF Roulette as lvl 32 DRK few days ago, get Halatali, everyone else (think it was CNJ, THM and ARCH ) is around the dungeon level and since I don't like DF'ing alone with a tank I want to get most of it and ask if full run is kay with them.

Oh boooy...the amount of gratitude I was met with just for doing the full run nearly blew my mind - I said to tell me if I miss some mobs and the CNJ was like 'its so nice to see nice tanks again' or stuff like that and the ARCH who thanked me already was like 'really Yuen tank you so much for this'

Just before the last boss I finally checked the gear of my mates and our THM had pretty bad gear, some lvl 1 stuf and told them they should upgrade after the run and he went like 'shhhh..!' and we had a pretty good laugh teasing him about it. As one of them said he looked more like a peasant villager who tries to survive with the adevnturers than a THM x'D
At the end someone went 'Full Commendations on Yuen' and 'Hope to play with you later' I checked right aftrewards to add them but sadly none of them was on my server :/
Anyhow! I was happy I could help them and the amount of gratitude was overwhelming for a simple halatali run - tanking can be SO rewarding with the right ppl


A big thank you to the lvl 44 Bard who stayed with us for the silly brayfolx run in which the three of us (me as 34 DRK, my bf as 55 WHM and a mate as 60 DRG) wanted to check if u can clear it with a lvl 1 weapon and starter gear (exculding the accesoires)
We learned no u can't but we made it work with me in my full gear and some piety stuff for the whm

If you're attacking the plant thing in melee, it poisons you from time to time. The plant/dog thing does that annoying mucus, though.

The adds are squishy as hell and shouldn't present a problem for anyone to kill in seconds.

Oh? I've run VA as brd, so the adds are super easy. Didn't know about the melee issue with Irminsul, though, my highest melee is...uh...32. Thanks for that tip! I'll be less annoyed now.

Echidna - Apparently, when Echidna splits, she enrages if she's killed before at least one of the serpents?

Back in when VA was 2nd day after patch and ppl were practialy new, burning down echidna FIRST after split was the only way to ensure ppl were burning them fast enough with relative distance the one who got killed of 3 needs to be FAR enough from living ones. Who dies first doesnt matter as long as the killed one is far enough and all 3 killed in time.

I In-progressed into a Fractal group tonight that had apparently wiped to the second boss. As in, minotaur.

I didn't even know such a thing was possible unless you're literally sleeping in his AOE, and even then I can still take 3 hits from it.

Yesterday in Void Ark I tanked Cuchúlainn and Echidna.

had 2 interesting DF groups yesterday.
1st one was Trials. Got Titan Hard first. Sweet deal, should be easy. We wipe. Wtf. DPS were standing in landslides and WotL and dropping like crazy. Maybe it was just a bad series of events. 2nd wipe.
Throughout the entire thing, 1 healer didn't have swiftcast, which the other one was complaining to him about. Ironically though, the healer complaining that the other didn't have swiftcast always did so while lying on the ground dead. But they did also make another good point, which was to stop healing Eos instead of the party. 1 tank was doing well, the other was constantly dead though.

So now that 2 wipes have happened, one of the DPS decides to ask, "so is anyone new here?". The tank that isn't dropping constantly chimes in. Honestly, never would of thought he was new, he was doing great. We explain things for the next few min to him. He gets disconnected... Someone vote dismisses him. Following that, 2 DPS drop. Ugh. Seriously. It's Titan Hard, not Ex. I think to myself, well, this can be done with a single tank. She's a WAR with barely 8000 hp. My hp as a ninja was 7900.... I look at the tanks gear.... She's level 50 with the ilvl 90 gear. Ok, that's fine for Titan Hard. Her accessories are still a bit low in the 30-40 range, but that's not the biggest deal. So whats the problem here? I look at her weapon. Dear. God. It's level 27 NQ. Wait what? How did you make it here?!

New DPS join us. One says, "why don't we start? We got 1 tank, that should be fine". I point out that the current tank may be a tad undergeared for the fight and we all have a laugh until a new tank joins. Nothing malicious in the game chat, the WAR acknowledged she was undergeared and said she just simply didn't have the money to get an upgrade (though, why she passed on the one's you get from simply leveling to 50...).

Next up! Do the leveling roulette as a tank. Get Solm Al. Awesome, should be fine. See the "one or more players are new" notification and I simply ask, "so who's new here?". Before an answer came, the monk goes running up to the first mob by herself... I go run in to save her. While I'm grabbing hate, the healer wrote, "I think that's our answer". I grab the 1st mob and drag to the 2nd and we burn them.

After I simply asked her not to pull for me again. Literally, right after, she runs into the next area. This time, the healer and I looked at each other and just "noped". She of course died, but not before dragging the damn mob to us. *sigh*
We kill them, she respawns and joins us about halfway through. I reiterate that she needs to stop pulling. She actually lets me grab the next mob before the 1st boss and we get through it. Then the boss comes. Healer at this point threatens to kick her if she pulls again. Guess what happens next. She pulls the boss. Healer puts up vote kick on her. =_=
We got a BLM after that and everything went real smooth from there.

Here's another "fun" one:

Expert roulette. Pharos Sirius (Hard). BLM/NIN/PLD, and I was healing on my AST. The PLD was pretty survivable and the DPS pretty decent, so I was pretty comfortable with throwing up a few HoTs on the tank and helping with the DPS to make the run go faster.

First boss, since I'm free to DPS, I also, naturally, help the DPS with the adds. What happens? I'm not "helping": I am the ONLY ONE killing the adds. The DPS are just burning down the boss, and the adds are stacking up while I'm trying desperately to kill them, keep the tank alive, and keep myself alive. Near the end of the fight I have FIVE adds on me and if I don't focus-heal myself my HP will drop in a near instant. Luckily, the DPS downed the boss before I could run out of MP, and I didn't get interrupted hardly at all while casting my heals on myself. ._.;

Second boss, surprise surprise, I'm the only one handling the slimes. To start out it's not a huge issue, but once the boss starts doing his corkscrew thingy and people start getting hit by it, it becomes a bit overwhelming. Becomes even more overwhelming when the NIN, who I told THREE TIMES to kill the slime he had over the vent I was STANDING ON, veeeery slowly kills the slime by the wall NEXT TO (but obviously far enough away to NOT HIT THE VENT) THE DAMN VENT. Of course, that caused even more slimes to spawn. I believe I had like three of them on me at one point.

So to recap: I had to heal the tank (thank GOD they were survivable so I didn't have to direct heal as much), heal the DPS, kill AND TANK the adds, and cling to dear life myself. And SOMEHOW, I managed to squeeze a few dots and Malefic IIs in on the bosses. Sweet baby Jesus, they were lucky I'm a geared healer. -.- After that second boss I decided to say something, so that hopefully they don't torment any other healers in the future who might be much less geared than I am. WORD FOR WORD, I said: "Just a heads up, the healer shouldn't be the only one killing adds..." Then the BLM, who doesn't DPS for nearly the entire trash pull following my saying that, comes out with this paragraph: "I helped you with the first couple, then you looked like you had it so I decided that more DPS on the boss was better. Quit being an asshole."

I DIIIIIIIIED. XDDDD First of all, she really didn't help me with the adds: if she did, it wasn't noticeable at all. Not once. I know for a FACT no one killed adds on the first boss, and I was the only one to get the tethers on the second (not to mention the couple times where I had to directly heal the tank and an add was up, no one took it until I stabilized the tank's HP and got it myself). Second of all, all I did was nicely tell the DPS they need to be more on-the-ball with killing adds and not force the healer to perform THREE ROLES AT ONCE, because our jobs are hard enough, and that makes me an asshole... This is a HUGE problem I've run into in this game with giving ANY advice or criticism to help people improve, no matter how nice/sugar-coated it is, so I simply responded with "Lol? Politely asking that you kill adds makes me an asshole? Damn, people in this game need to grow some thicker skin. ._. " She said it sounded like I was "rude" and "condescending" with my saying "just a heads up", and that at 60 and Expert roulette level they would just OBVIOUSLY know that that's what they need to do (SO NOT TRUE btw, any healer or tank would know that pain, QQ). Last thing I said was "Don't worry, you'll know when I'm being rude/condescending/an asshole. <3" And you will, because I can be a royal bitch at times: I'll admit it. >>

Luckily the DPS did what they should have been doing all along on the last boss, save for the second set of grey bombs and remedy bombs, where the NIN failed to knock back the remedy bomb on the second grey bomb and it exploded. .-. Kinda figured with this group that that might happen on this boss, so I precasted and AoE heal, and we finished the fight without incident.

But... SERIOUSLY! >< Why do people get so damn offended if you offer advice or ask that someone helps you out a bit and makes your job a little easier? I'm never mean when I do it. ._. If I said something like "For the love of GOD, help me kill adds," or "Do your jobs, you idiots", then yeah, THAT is being rude (unless the former is said after numerous times of trying to nicely get the DPS to do what they're supposed to).

Second boss, surprise surprise, I'm the only one handling the slimes.

Just in all honestly...I've found it easiest to deal with the Slimes if the Healer deals with them and lets the DPS just kill the boss (I think that's actually the general assumption for that fight; healer deals with slimes). If you pick them up as soon as they spawn and kill them on the vents asap, the mechanic is a non-issue.

I'm going to assume that you're close to min ilv for the dungeon? My healers are under i200, and I can DPS most of the fight and deal with slimes.

The DPS definitely could have helped out on the first boss, and were a bit rude. But...especially if everyone is geared...people are going to assume you can deal with a faster run and do more than stand around and heal occasionally with little DPSing.

It's moments like this that makes me reconsider tanking...

Did my EX Roulette (PS Hard) on my PLD today. Now, I know PLD isn't in the best of shape, but outside of anything savage it hardly matters. Even with the gear now, PLD is incredibly viable in savage.
However, one the DPS in my group (a DRG) gave me crap from the get go about how PLD was trash, had no AoE dmg, and how I queued on PLD solely to slow down other people's runs. I respond by telling him that I just prefer the aesthetic of PLD and enjoy tanking. We get to the first boss, clear it without any problems, and on the run from the boss room to the next trash I see this message:

"Go kill urself PLD"

And then I get vote kicked. Considered reporting the guy, but honestly I doubt anything would happen because I foresee this being factored under "playstyle differences."

Actually the fact he said that would have been enough to merit him being warned by a GM. Removing for play style is one thing, but telling someone to kill them self is a major issue that they shouldn't ever turn a blind eye to. However don't give up on tanking though, I've just recently gotten over the fear myself and am enjoying it, granted I've yet to sign up for Raids or Level 60 roulettes yet.
