Just finished the last two MSQs in ARR and I wish I could say the fights were great but I never saw them. Castrum Meridianum was ok; everyone knew a newbie was there and just carried on anyway without complaint. The Praetorium was different. I let everyone know I was new, was told to "ignore the cut scenes" and "run." I got lost right at the beginning and someone helped me. After that, I got killed and then immediately following I was stuck in cut scenes (which I like to watch in the moment) for the next long while. What I could see of local chats was some complaining and at one point an attempt to vote kick either myself or the person who was going to assist me if/when I got out of the cut scenes (never did). If anyone knows Sapphy Chan on Zalera, tell her Kakiko, the BLM newbie from The Praetorium appreciates her assistance.

I get that not everyone likes when newbs watch the cut scenes, but I think we all have a right to do so especially when it's not impacting the group's ability to clear.

About a week ago I did an expert roulette and ended up in Kugane Castle. We had a NIN and a WHM who queued together.

The red flags started going up early on. We ended up wiping on one of the first trash pulls. NIN says something like "lol I'm so squishy". "Me too" says the healer. So I looked at their gear. They both had a mixture of 290 gear and some level 68 and 69 pieces here and there.

The tank still insisted on doing decently large pulls even though the healer was struggling to keep him alive. The NIN also was not using AOE. So everything was dying very slowly.

On the second boss, the healer insisted on standing in melee range. I'm a melee so when I get that lightning thing that you have to spread out for, I try to run to a corner to get away from the tank. The healer insisted on following me into the corner and almost killed us.

Last boss, healer dies at some point but we end up clearing. By the end I was so frustrated that no one got my commendation.

I asked the bf, who was leveling BRD at the time, to log me in and check my retainers for me. As he's sitting there waiting for his level roulette to pop he gets an idea. He adds me to his party, rides my healer queue, and once he's loaded in he makes my character leave. To the people who got ditched in Doma Castle by a WHM I'm so sorry.

That seems... Counterproductive. It might take longer for a replacement healer to show up compared to queuing normally...

Running Bardam's Mettle today has been an adventure.

1. Had a DRK tank who sprinted once the gate dropped and tried to pull everything to the first wall. Everyone sprinted after him, but it was obvious he was going to die. Healer tells him he's going too fast, and he answers: "just pop sprint." The healer (an AST) hadn't even picked a sect yet.

Second time he tries the same thing, aaaand it's another wipe. Other DPS reminds him: "Defensive cooldowns help." And the tank's answer? "You're smart. Now STFU"

The rest of the run went better when he stopped pulling like a maniac, but it's like... why be rude when the party gives you feedback? The healer wasn't synced down, either. There's nothing wrong with being patient.

2. New run, and this time the healer (WHM) is again struggling -- but with pretty standard pulls. Tank adjusts immediately and goes to single pull; everyone's cooperative and chatty. But the WHM had trouble all throughout the run, and on our way to the 3rd boss, gave us her reason why: she was new to healing. Everyone was new at some point and that's fine.

But why are you learning to heal in Bardam's Mettle?!

The other half of the party was really helpful and gave her tips, but I had to remind her to res someone. If you're new to healing, you should really be learning in lower-level dungeons.

Was playing Scholar on Susano normal... People kept dying alot... RDM kept raising the people I was trying to raise... I kept wasting mp trying to raise the same people as him cause if I see someone go down its a natural reaction... After we won I made a smart ass remark at him... and I'm sorry RDM... ok?... I'm sorry... Im becoming the exact type of person I hate in this game...

No comms as BRD in the Aery, where I was religiously maintaining all my songs, utilising them to maximum effect, as well as keeping an eye on the party's TP/MP to see when to use Tactician/Refresh. And using Peloton at all times. That run took barely 20 minutes, even with a sprout SAM.

On the other hand, Ramuh HM as WHM, in which I swore at the WAR who was deliberately making life more difficult for everyone by getting them cleaved with Ramuh's tankbuster, sat in a corner DPSing and refusing to heal out of spite? 3 comms.

I suppose I should let my inner frustrations out more often. It would certainly allow me to be more zen.

Why do I seem to have more fun in learning parties than I do in clear parties? Case in point, going for my weekly clear on O1S, first joined a clear party. One of the tanks messes up and turns the boss to most of the party for Clamp. It was the first run, so I joked that this should wake everybody up. The off-tank goes off, calling the whole party a bunch of newbies, points out the tank for 'being stupid', and then leaves. That was the first run...and we were doing the fight up to that point perfectly.

I joined a learning party this morning, two DPS forget to slide back in and get killed by a fireball, a tank gets hit by clamp, and my co-healer just dies - I wasn't paying attention, I have no idea what killed them. And there was no toxicity. Everybody's laughing in chat and joking around. We did the run about 5 more times, but we barely hit 14% enrage...and yet, I had so much more fun hanging with these guys than I did with clear parties that turn toxic on the very first run. What is happening?
