After reset-roulette grind --- Trial Roulette: Striking Tree (Hard)

Normally when a newcomer ask for any advice for the fight, I'd explain thoroughly, provided if the tank isn't pulling the boss right off the bat. Not this one, so I proceed on with something simple, something that they shouldn't do. But alas this still happens:

"Stay away from from tanks."
Very simple: "StAy AwAy FrOm TaNkS."
I've seen to many stupid deaths in this trial because some DPS decides to hug our main tank and proceed on getting murdered. I just... nevermind Good laughter, at least.
I almost choked on my snack from laughter seeing that happen as I type my response. The 'XD' from fellow party mate didn't help either.

You don't get benefits from materia when synced down so it doesn't matter which one you meld. The spiritbond bonus is still active, though. So it makes sense to just meld whatever is cheapest and SpS, Tenacity and Piety are always the cheapest.

I mean, I have something like 20 of each VIII combat materia just from Lv80 dungeon drops. I also have 100+ of each VII combat materia because I've been too lazy to visit Mutamix and attempt to convert them to VIIIs. I also have 100+ cracked stellaclusters which can be exchanged for VIII combat materia. I haven't really farmed them either; mostly I've just run enough expert roulettes to cap my tomes and that's it. I guess someone who just finished the 5.0 story would not have enough of the correct materia yet, but they really do rain down at Lv80.

All this talk to melding materia makes me realise how many of the currency things I have. Currently sitting on 278 Mhachi Matter(V materia), 964 Cracked Cluster(VI), 207 Cracked Planicluster(VII), and 826 Cracked Stellacluster(VIII). Not to mention the DoH/DoL, and the potsherd from PoTD(only 28 of those) and HoH(5 of those). I should probably do something with them...but I also have a retainer that has 57 different Materia on it(some with over 100 of them - typically the VII and V Crit/D.Hit/Det).

As for a story, well, just like with Rein and the DPS standing beside the tank, I've had that happen quite a few times. Typically I find it's a SAM who stands beside me, and when I move to the side enough to not hit them with the tank buster that is coming, they tend to move with me. I've come to the conclusion that anyone who stands beside/on me while I'm tanking deserves to be hit by those attacks and I will not move(just like people in Narnia who decide to keep an add there if they take one from me while in the middle of the pull since I hit them once with and AoE before I keep running to the next).

Also, what is up with people not using their AoE buff(like Heart of Light, or Shield Samba, or Shake it Off, etc) when there is damage incoming for the whole group? So many times when I am MT in a normal raid, or even the odd time I do Trial Roulette, I don't see those buffs going out. I will probably see them once every 10 runs.

Also, what is up with people not using their AoE buff(like Heart of Light, or Shield Samba, or Shake it Off, etc) when there is damage incoming for the whole group? So many times when I am MT in a normal raid, or even the odd time I do Trial Roulette, I don't see those buffs going out. I will probably see them once every 10 runs.

I try to hit Heart of Light whenever I can to mitigate party/raid wide damage, though I sometimes forget amidst the chaos. I actually see people using their AoE buffs pretty regularly though so it might just come down to personal experience.

It can happen in the heat of battle, especially if they are like me and get easily "lost" between dodging all the visual clutter and adding one's own. Of course it's my/their own fault. Personally, I laugh/cry/am embarrased and try to not screw up more after the raise *shrugs*.

Playing healer. Running a brand new dungeon, so I allow myself to watch the cutscenes. Everything goes fine, although tank is obviously in a hurry. At the last boss, cutscene comes in for me, while tank rushes ahead and engages the boss. I get locked out of the area before the cutscene end, so when it does end I rush into it because I see the tank has low health. I manage a single potent heal before I get instantly blown to bits by an aoe I couldn't anticipate, cause, well, I've never done the dungeon before. So I respawn, run back, but I'm still locked out of the area cause the party didn't wipe yet.

Party manages without additional heals and the Tank even manages a "Thank you". But I guess the other two DPS felt bad for me cause I got all the coms and the tank got none.

So I just got out of a 45 min Malikah's Well run with a friend. He was on BRD, I was on NIN. Here's the rundown:

-WHM healer was a new sprout. Had augmented scavean set save for the 71 cane and the lvl 67 ring. Yes, lvl 67 in a 77 dungeon. They also had a tendency to use the LB bar when it was full for no reason at all on the first and last bosses.
-Both my friend and I had a sneaking suspicion the whm boosted their blm and a couple other jobs, we're somewhat certain he did the same for whm.
-"This game has a lot of dungeons." <---whm
-GNB mass pulled the first group and the WHM Bene'd himself right when you grab the first trash pack. No clue as to why he did. We wiped twice on this pull because the healer was slow on the uptake.
-GNB seemed to have a bit of an idea on how to tank, but would oftentimes not use Bow Shock.
-Wiped on the first boss because healer never asked about mechanics and ate death. Friend chose to eat death after seeing the whm get near instanuked.
-Trash after the first boss the tank wisely chose not to mass pull, but still had issues when the whm was spamming cure 3 and normal regens on everyone.
-Second boss the whm almost eats another death.
-Trash after second boss the tank mass pulls and nearly dies because Cure 1 and Cure 2 spam. Also he moves out of Asylum and my dotons. reeeeee
-Last boss, hoo boy. We wiped on the first pull because neither the whm nor gnb asked about the mechanics, and apparently the whm was collecting vuln stacks. He ate 5 before keeling over.
-We then proceeded to mark my friend with the danger dorito marker and told the whm to follow him. We wipe again because the tank ate 4 beams from Heretics fork thinking the middle was safe. No it is not my friend. The whm also ate death because mechanics are hard.
-Finally we showed them the cheese method for heretics fork after our second wipe. We nearly wiped again because our healer kept applying individual regens and not using the other tools at his disposal.
-We finally get both the tank and healer on the same page for mechanics, and had the tank follow me for the nail order.

When I main tank it's pretty hard to hit everyone with Dark Missionary since there's usually 1 or 2 people off in Narnia looking for Aslan, outside of big hits or off-tanking I only rarely use it because of that reason. Reprisal works just as well and doesn't need me to hunt down all the stragglers and find the perfect spot to use it while turning the boss and annoying the melee dps
