What I posted isn't eating the damage. You only need to stand a bit away from him to avoid the vuln stack and reduce the damage of the charge attack. When it's your turn to get hit just run out about 15y. He'll still jump out of other's melee range, but it will still be close enough that physically running over to him can still be done without dropping a GCD and gap closers are within range. Casters and healers obviously don't get inconvenienced this way either.

This could potentially turn into eating the damage somewhat if you misjudge the distance and end up standing a bit too close. But that doesn't really matter since the damage he does from the charge still gets reduced by whatever distance you did put between you and the single vuln stack is negligible.
