I want to ride in the airships my FC has crafted.

Is this going to be a thing, ever? More and more details have dropped regarding 3.1, and it seems like actually steering an airship around with your friends hopping around on board ooh-ing and aah-ing as the scenery blows by, is the one thing that has been left out.

Flying an airship was pretty much why I got excited about them in the first place. What's up with this?

Hmm, I hadn't thought about it, but I don't really recall if something like this is in the pipeline. I don't really remember what plans they had for airship content outside of what we have and what we're getting in 3.1 or if there was any more revealed.

You barely get to experience the existing airships between cities.
I highly doubt they'll have a 1.0/XI era style traveling sequence.

It would be sad if exploratory islands didn't have the feature of steering my airship with my whole FC on top of it.

For some reason I don't think it will. They showed us we can fly around on our mounts but nothing really on flying around the map on our airships apart from being able to fly to the zones.
I'm starting to feel like its just going to be a random cutscene and we wont actually get to fly around in our ships.

It's just that when the developers have you spend resources on creating a custom airship, and then say you'll be be able to explore you might expect to be actually use it y'know? I was hoping it would be used to travel between the islands, but that's going to be done by flying mounts so it'll probably just be a cutscene that takes us to the area with the airship. =/

Due to the way they real time sink it in a retainer venture like fashion, I think the best we can hope for is they one day unlock cut scenes tied to Air ship travel.

Tho honestly, anyone else kinda miss the travel between places on boat/airship in XI? Even in Maplestory it was one of the chill times to just talk to random people that you normally wouldn't.

Never played FFXI, but it was always nice in WoW. FFXIV's world is so cut off and disjointed that's it's never going to work unless they rebuild the world from (mostly) scratch and remove all but a few teleports (being return, house, etc)... that's never going to happen though.
