Why do MCH spread shot

Honestly i don't know why i see this playing as either my tank or a healer.

I have a level 42 MCH and spread shot to me is so weak that i don't even use it but when im playing my tank or healer i see other players using spread shot all the time on large trash pulls why! Does it get better with higher levels? Did i just happen to get some lazy MCH? It seems like the most useless ability ever, it works better burning down each mob

Because it's an AoE skill that you use on large trash pulls like you said. Compared to grenado shot, its more TP efficient if the mobs don't die fast enough.

An AoE skill that has 100 potency is better used if it can hit more than 6 mobs than a single target skill with 250 potency. (100x6 > 250)

You mean 3? 100x3 > 250

Also to OP it's more TP efficient than spamming grenado shot if the mobs will live longer than your TP pool can be sustained and it's a helluva lot better than single targetting every mob down. General rule of thumb is if there's 3 or more mobs you better start using your AoEs on any class.

Don't think the OP is even concerned about that small difference between Spread and Grenado Shot.

I don't know why I'm seeing this either, but lately there's a been a trend of people thinking single targeting mobs is more DPS than AoEing them ("It seems like the most useless ability ever, it works better burning down each mob").

It's not rocket science, if you have one GCD to do something, doing 140 potency to one mob is going to lose to doing 100 x 3 potency to three mobs. But I'm guessing some people don't think about the numbers that way and just look at how many mobs are still standing up.

Becuase its best to aoe 3+ mobs rather than single target.

Also add into this the MCH cooldowns like ammo and rapid fire with the other dps increase cooldowns like raging+hawks eye etc and you have some exceptionally potent burst aoe dps.

With the added buffs of Raging Strikes, Hawk's eye, Reassemble and even rapid fire all these buffs increases the damage of spread shot

Not even math. Basic arithmetic. No algebra or anything complicated needed at all.

And grenado is 20% more damage but for 23% more tp cost, before ammo considerations. With ammo, it's 120 vs 140 potency, so 16% more damage for 23% more cost.
