Tanks in Slaying don't need any over healing. You just need to begin healing them sooner because they have a lower HP cap. You'll still be healing at the same time.

Tanks in Slaying / Hybrid allow them to DPS harder, which means (1) they generate more hate and (2) things die faster than normal, just reducing the overall healing requirement for the fight.

This is the same argument for a healer DPS. Healer's DPSing can shorten the fight length and thus reduce overall healing requirement (admittedly, you do use more MP to do this more often than naught).

Are either required? No, not for 99% of the content out there. Are they nice to have? Most certainly. Are they things players should strive for to maximize their performance? Most definitely.
