This so much... there was a reason people sold runs of titan HM on pretty much every server. Heart phase was a very real threat if your dps didn't know how to dps. Titan extreme with the gear people have for that now is probably closer to what titan HM was like at release. During 2.1 very few people tried selling Titan extreme runs because even one person being bad was enough to cause major problems.

A few things on healers not dpsing... If you are not doing damage because you need to conserve MP that is fine. Usually not an issue in dungeons but there are a few bosses that can be a major drain on healer MP. If you are not doing damage because you don't want to but you are not healing either... you are being lazy and why would you want to stand around and do nothing? You can stand around doing nothing outside of instances. And any gear you get is going to make you stand around even more.

If you are not going to dps then I will as the tank and you better keep quite about it. I don't know how many times now I have been yelled at by the healer jumping around like an idiot with full MP every pull because I turned off my tank stance.

If you don't want to DPS as a healer you absolutely should not play Sch. At low levels the fairy can pretty much heal on its own which leaves nothing for you to do. At high levels if you spam heals you can keep the fairy from doing much but that defeats the purpose of the pet. If you want to be a healer only then Ast is probably best followed by Whm.

Yeah, if you don't want to DPS then SCH is definitely not for you. The way I play SCH, I'm essentially a mini-SMN in disguise who lets my faerie do most of the healing. But most of all, I'd get incredibly bored very fast if I stopped DPSing because there's just nothing to do (unless you're doing endgame raids).

That said, like others have stated there's no need to DPS as a healer ever outside of endgame raids. It just helps speed things up, but it's not necessary.

Back in ffxi when I was a whm I literally only healed in parties. Nowadays though I've been able to adapt to dpsing alittle in ff14. The thing about 14 is as a whm we get cleric stance, which switches out int and mnd around. Ever since I linked my cleric stance to hotkey 1 on my keybord it made a world of difference. Now very ez to just hit 1 to switch between healing and dpsing. So I now dps even more.

Well in FFXI, aside from enfeebling, you barely had time to do anything else, since usually took 1 missed cure and the tank dies >_>.

Not to mention no resources to do anything else. Oh woe those days where you spend 50% of the time casting and the other 50% on your knees

Not even remotely the same. Defensive cooldowns are essential to tanking. Healer DPS is...not.

In 98% of content it's just not necessary. I don't know why, but there's a group of people in this game who assume that if you're not doing everything exactly right, or how they would do it, you're terrible. This is just not the case. I myself heal and DPS. I think it's fun. But when I'm not healing and our healer isn't DPSing, I'm not complaining if things are dying. And if they're not? I'm going to look at the DPS first, because that's their -only- job.

I do not miss the need to sit for Healing MP, AT ALL.

Technically incorrect, as 90% of mechanics fall to the DPS to perform them. The only healer mechanic i can ever recall is Ifrit/Nisi, and all that involves is standing away from the group so you can't medica.

Being a healer is so mechanic free in this game it kinda makes me feel bad. I get to be lazy so much.

Good groups usually force healers to do mechanics if possible instead of DPS/tanks, or at least as much as possible. Cases in point: T2, T6 busting chains, T8 towers, T12 passing/fountains, A3S in general, A4S Nisi

So one could infer, from your reasoning, that it is perfectly fine for dps to stand in avoidable aoes in order to slightly increase dps. I mean, it's the healers' job to heal right?
