The key to FFXIV boss encounters is to learn the scripting. They are all designed to be completed by pretty much anyone who can follow the patterns. Bosses have very static rotations with few variables (usually who gets hit with what, but even that is often limited by role or position on the enmity list). Titan is a textbook example of this in that players who don't learn the fight and attempt to wing it tend to end up tanking the floor early on.

Ask a veteran player about Titan (all versions), and you'll usually get "Oh, that's so easy." Ask someone attempting Titan for the first time, and you'll frequently get "What kind of shit was that?!" The difference is almost entirely in knowing the steps to the dance, which coincidentally is a huge factor in how healers manage to keep people healthy while pushing DPS along.

About your Titan example, I think it's an over hyped boss fight aside from it's extreme mode. As a new player Titan normal mode was the easiest primal/party related thing I've done up to that point. I still remember my first Titan group, I said my gf and I were new to the fight. The other dps and tank insisted we'll wipe a million times because of the fact. My gf and I ended up not getting hit once aside from his unavoidable aoe dmg.

Titan hard mode was easy as well esp since by the time you get to that point in the game you should already know how to dodge and play the game well enough to dodge his obvious telegraphs.

Titan Extreme mode on the other hand was quite difficult and is the only mode where you actually have to "dance". It's such an unfair balance compared to the other extreme primals and I believe this mode is the reason why this boss gets over hyped so much for it's difficulty.

Titan HM used to be very difficult, sort of impossible in DF, doable with a lot of failed tries in Party Finder, when all players were about ilvl60 and with ilevel 70 or lower weapons. Most groups couldn't kill the heart.

Now with the Trial Roulette and most players overgeared it's easy...to get carried. It is unlikely you enter there without knowing the fight and don't die.

Except 90% of the times someone still gets caught and flies off the arena. It may be only for EU servers tho, cuz latency is a thing.

Someone obviously wasn't around when that fight first came out, lol. It was insanely tough at ilvl60-65.

I watch guides for anything that labels itself hard or has a reputation of being hard, and since everyone's ilvl is now synced to like 110+, dps checks shouldn't be a problem now. Also about the carry thing since my co-healer fell off early I had to solo heal pretty much everything and I still had time to dps people out of goals. Titan hard is very easy in my opinion xD

Because it's true. I personally get staggering 200-250ms ping. Granted I have to use wi-fi, but still. Life will change in 2 weeks tho!

This so much... there was a reason people sold runs of titan HM on pretty much every server. Heart phase was a very real threat if your dps didn't know how to dps. Titan extreme with the gear people have for that now is probably closer to what titan HM was like at release. During 2.1 very few people tried selling Titan extreme runs because even one person being bad was enough to cause major problems.

A few things on healers not dpsing... If you are not doing damage because you need to conserve MP that is fine. Usually not an issue in dungeons but there are a few bosses that can be a major drain on healer MP. If you are not doing damage because you don't want to but you are not healing either... you are being lazy and why would you want to stand around and do nothing? You can stand around doing nothing outside of instances. And any gear you get is going to make you stand around even more.

If you are not going to dps then I will as the tank and you better keep quite about it. I don't know how many times now I have been yelled at by the healer jumping around like an idiot with full MP every pull because I turned off my tank stance.

If you don't want to DPS as a healer you absolutely should not play Sch. At low levels the fairy can pretty much heal on its own which leaves nothing for you to do. At high levels if you spam heals you can keep the fairy from doing much but that defeats the purpose of the pet. If you want to be a healer only then Ast is probably best followed by Whm.
