I would throw in my two cents and tell you ho I do it like most Scholars I would believe. Prebuff the tank with Adlo and stone skin. Drop your dots on a mob and if there are others around use Bane to spread them. Your fairy and your prebuffs should keep the tank at an adequate level until you are done with this rotation. It isn't hard at all to do a bit of multitasking this way and you are not worrying about optimal dps just adding a bit to make things smoother. I can notice the difference between when I do and do not dps so I prefer to dps. As the true dps target mobs one by one I slowly drain the others of health and make the run faster. If the tank starts to drop below about 70% I stop dpsing and heal.

My main goal is to keep everyone alive so I always prioritize healing first. Dps comes second. Honestly I think if you do it a bit you will enjoy it.

Hi, your main job is healing, but also contributing to a good run, so you will want to do DPS. SCH especially comes from ACN that is a DPS class and has a fairy that does a lot of healing work, many exaggerate and say the fairy does all the work in low level dungeons.

So it is very frequent to see SCH all the time in cleric stance doing DPS and only sometimes in difficult places take it off and focus only on healing.

When a place is new, you need to be much more prudent but once you know the place you'll see there is a lot of free time to DPS. This especially for SCH that has a fairy.

WHM is much more focused on healing but many times he also has spare time and can DPS. The more you know a place and you have more experience, the better you will be able to turn on and off cleric stance and DPS. It's also more fun than just healing when you know the place and know it is safe to do.

I think you have to do all you can to help the run go better, and this includes doing DPS when you feel you safely can. Some runs go so much better if in certain places the WHM does a couple of holies without any risk, for example.

Think the other way round about an ACN: he is a DPS class, but sometimes if needed he can heal, and he can also raise which is a great help. You don't expect him to think he is a DPS class and why should he help raising. BLM can also use apocataptasis and eye for an eye which are not exactly DPS but also help, or also heal in emergencies.

Hmmm, so far leveling up healer class, if it looks like I wont have to heal for like 5 seconds lol, I can squeeze in 2-3 stones haha.

While DPSing on a healer is not mandatory realize that by not DPSing and doing nothing else but healing that you are actually putting your party at MORE risk than you would be if you were DPSing, ESPECIALLY on White Mage.

Whenever you are fighting a pack with 3+ monsters the best thing you can do to protect the party is just to flat out kill one and reduce the damage that the party takes by 33%.

Sure you can heal the damage from the 3+ monsters just fine by spamming cure on the tank, but you may actually be putting quite a bit of stress on the tank because if the tank doesn't keep hate on all 3+ monsters it turns into a ****storm very fast, and when that happens it's a lot harder to heal as now you have to keep multiple people alive.

By helping out with the DPS at the start of the fight and knocking a monster to the ground fast it makes the entire fight a lot easier as a monster pack with only 2 or less monsters is hardly a threat at all.

Simply trying to only cure the tank over and over will actually put you at some level of risk of running out of MP while helping to take down the first monster in the pack makes healing for the rest of the fight really easy.

The easiest way to assist with this is to activate cleric stance at the END of the previous fight, quickly apply Bio II, Miasma, and Bio to the primary tank target, and then cancel clerics stance and heal up from there (There's no cooldown to cancel Cleric's stance, only to activate it so it's safer to have clerics stance up and to cancel it if you need to heal than to activate it, change your mind and want to cancel it and it be on cooldown). If the tank reaches half HP at any time before you have finished applying your DoTs, just cancel clerics stance and heal the tank. This is probably the minimum that you should do on Scholar. You can certainly push your DPS quite a bit more if you want, but honestly any less I believe is putting the party at risk for most normal 3 pack of dungeon trash mobs.

In regards to target switching on PS4 hold down either L2 or R2 and then tap L1 and R1 to cycle between monsters in whatever direction you click. L1 to cycle left and R1 to cycle right. I actually find switching targets much easier with a controller than with a mouse imo.

Yeah, if you don't want to DPS then SCH is definitely not for you. The way I play SCH, I'm essentially a mini-SMN in disguise who lets my faerie do most of the healing. But most of all, I'd get incredibly bored very fast if I stopped DPSing because there's just nothing to do (unless you're doing endgame raids).

That said, like others have stated there's no need to DPS as a healer ever outside of endgame raids. It just helps speed things up, but it's not necessary.

Back in ffxi when I was a whm I literally only healed in parties. Nowadays though I've been able to adapt to dpsing alittle in ff14. The thing about 14 is as a whm we get cleric stance, which switches out int and mnd around. Ever since I linked my cleric stance to hotkey 1 on my keybord it made a world of difference. Now very ez to just hit 1 to switch between healing and dpsing. So I now dps even more.

Well in FFXI, aside from enfeebling, you barely had time to do anything else, since usually took 1 missed cure and the tank dies >_>.

Not to mention no resources to do anything else. Oh woe those days where you spend 50% of the time casting and the other 50% on your knees
