Yeah, I'm not really sure why the sob story was necessary. Many many people grow up in bad situations, some way worse than yours. Your post makes it seem like you're using your struggles in life to bring some sort of validity to your point, which seems pretty pathetic to me.

I'm sorry your life sucks, Neptune...but that isn't SE's responsibility. Neptune is Neptune's responsibility.

    Excellent post.
I still don't see the point of the sob story, OP made it seem relevant to the post on his first sentence.

I agree that the feeling of achievement of FFXI was as you say.

    But....

I have a hard time reconciling "work hard to get to 50" and "2 weeks".

I Can understand the achievement thing, but I've never got the woohoo look at me i grind'd day and night an ignored my health, social life and personal hygiene to play a computer game..

I much prefer the EvE style.. or a system where you don't have to just grind up to a number as fast as possible to do the content.
I would prefer to progress though content from the start, having challenges constantly being presented and so even that thing you did months ago when you were new, if you go back is still something that is fun, as you don't just 1shot everything its still a challenge and worthwhile .
It should be a lot easier but meh... Not so easy its pointless..
It removes repeatable content from the game in many respects..

Games just making you level up is a very poor and easy way out for devs..
While grinding will always be a major part of MMO's a more content and featured based approach is where games should be heading. AoC tried this and from what people said it was a good idea..

So how about we encourage the Dev's to provide fun and engaging challenging for group and solo, but just monotonous mob killing that is well...

As for the OP's personal situation, well its yours, seems you had it rough, but that dosnt mean you should use those facts to try and validate an Opinion of how this game or anything else should be. Sorry.

    Sob story, wtf?

Seriously though, if you're that consumed by a game that all you ate was pizza and neglected to take out the trash I think you have far far far worse issues than powerleveling in game. If you took off vacation time and had sleepless nights, played for days on end while the game was (and still is to many) considered broken... then GG that's your own fault.

There is no award for being the first to level 50, there is not accomplishment. I think you need to see a counselor if you actually "cried" when you saw the leveling for 1.19 as you might have some serious emotional or addiction problems. Now I'm fairly positive you didn't really cry but you get my drift.

I for one knew the game would change and didn't spend countless hours and waste my life sitting around during the broken time of FFXIV. Now I'm reaping the benefits of easy xp and better content. It's called thinking ahead.

This whole post is a little mean on my part but your thread was kinda pathetic. Sorry you had a messed up life, but why would you ever share it with the Internet and why would you think anyone cares. There are about 100 other PL is broken threads on the forum.... IMO you should close this.

The OP's point was she worked hard to be where she is in real life just as she worked hard to get to 50 ingame, and she hates the fact that people now have an easier time getting to 50 when she had to work hard to get to it.

I know that, but FFXIV isn't real life.

In my opinion you're barking up the wrong tree in both FFXI's Abyssea or the leveling after 1.19.

If people want to take their time leveling they still can, nothing stops them. People, however, want a fast way of leveling and they've gotten it. Much like in Abyssea, nobody was preventing you from not using the boosts from NPC"s. By all means if you wanted a "challenge" in that respect you could easily have one.

That being said, I hope they don't go back to the leveling the way it was. Before 1.19 anybody could kill mobs 10lvls above them and go from 1-50 relatively quickly, nothing has changed now.

Also, it's not like FFXI was immune from leveling in such a manner and I didn't hear you touch upon it when you were talking about how amazing it was pre Abyssea.

FFXI has always had power leveling. Before Abyssea it involved 1 or more white mages or red mages leveling a party or a group of people, sometimes even a singular person. Then there were the infamous Summoner Burn Parties which made people level up very quickly. Abyssea alliances certainly made the grind easier but it didn't make doing the endgame content any easier- or knowing how to play your job for that matter.

I'm very sorry if I sound harsh, that isn't my intent. However, please understand FFXI was far from well balanced and perfect the way you make it sound.

FFXIV needs a lot of TLC until it is worth paying for. This current leveling system may yet change and it probably will (at least i hope) but for right now, I'm ok with the power leveling because it isn't being shoved down my throat and quite frankly, it's not being shoved down your throat either.
