Lost trying to transfer from PS3 to PS4

I've played FFXIV: ARR on the PS3 since release and I've only recently purchased a PS4 and I want to move onto that but I'm having issues.


I understand and accept that I'm late to the party, the free upgrade from PS3 to PS4 is over, so I went to the PSN store on my PS4 to buy a new digital download for my PS4

Here's what I brought.
FINAL FANTASY XIV: Heavensward.
PS4 | Bundle | 1.7GB | 23.06.2015


I assumed that this included the base game, I based this assumption on the following..

1) The fact that it is labled as a "bundle" (Definition: A collection of things or quantity of material tied or wrapped up together. e.g : a thick bundle of envelopes)

2) The Heavensward "bundle" is more expensive than the base game (£39.99 vs £29.99)

3) The absence of any warning that a base game is required to play.

So I begin the download. 1.7GB, I know the full game is larger than that, I was hoping it included a code for the base game or maybe I was supposed to download the free trial version, interestingly, the option to "Add to Cart" is still available despite the fact that I've already brought it.

1.7GB download is finished, now it's waiting to install. There doesn't seem to be anyway to install it so I figure I need to download the base game, I download the trial version.

Once everything is installed I boot up the game on PS4..

"Welcome to Final Fantasy XIV!

The following steps are required in order to begin playing Final Fantasy XIV.
Please follow the onscreen instructions to complete the required procedures.

• Set up a Square Enix Account.
• Link your Sony Entertainment Network Account.
• Register your license for Final Fantasy XIV."

I currently possess a Square Enix account so I select that option and I log in with my account details.

"No valid service account is available to play FINAL FANTASY XIV.

Please exit and restart the game, then select ACCOUNT at the bottom of the launcher screen to confirm the status of your service account. (This isn't available on the PS4)
You can access the same information by visiting the FINAL FANTASY XIV: Mog Station.

So I go to the mog station.
My account is licenced only for the PS3, fair enough. I select the "Add Playstation4 License" option.

"To register the expansion for FINAL FANTASY XIV on the Playstation 3 or Playstation 4, you must purchase the digital download, (done that) or apply a registration code through the Sony Entertainment Network.
Upon completing registration and installation, start the game and follow the on-screen instructions to log in and add your license to your Square Enix Account.
*This product code cannot be registered via the Mog Station."

I boot up FFXIV on my PS3, I press the little obscure button in the bottom right of the launcher that says "Transfer Character Data" "PS3" -> "PS4"
This only appears to transfer my character data, cross hotbars, macros etc etc, I begin the transfer anyway.

"Character save data has been successfully uploaded.
To continue the transfer process, please start the Playstation 4 version of FINAL FANTASY XIV." (There is no option to do this on the PS4)

So based on all of this information have I been screwed over by Sony's definition of a "bundle"?
Or am I missing something else.

The store through the PS4 itself lacks in some areas but the PC version does mention the version you bought here does require separate purchase of the base game.

Yeah sorry bud. From the looks if it, you only purchased Heavensward for PS4. Not really a huge issue. Now you just need to purchase ARR for PS4 and you should be all set
