Wasn't this game more social at launch when all we had was PF, before they added the whole cross server DF?

At least it seemed more social back then.

Also I don't know why they put regions for servers this time around. Back in ffxi everyone around the world played on the same servers, but ffxiv they separated jap/ and English servers for some reason...

I think you have this backwards. At launch all we had was cross server df and 5 months later in 2.1 they patched in the pf.
