(Get the Heck Out of) Dodge

Sprint is fun. When I'm trying to get back to the front line of a dungeon, it's handy. However, as a tank, melee DPS, or shooter, Sprint has no use to me in combat. Casters can very quickly get out of a poorly-placed AoE, but that utility is seldom experienced by those of us who rely on TP for our combat abilities. We also find ourselves in situations where we would use an 800+ TP sprint (so upwards of ten seconds of increased mobility) to run for two seconds. Not only is this wasteful, but a bad idea.

Why not give everyone a dodge ability as well? 150-200TP for a three second speed burst to help us (get the heck out of) dodge without crippling our ability to continue in the fight.

    Thoughts?

Casters lose significantly more for moving than physical classes do.

Yes, but they can at the very least start over after hitting Sprint. TP classes can't even do that. Sure, they don't lose as much DPS for moving, but if they can't get out of the nasty AoE puddles (due to pissing off RNGesus), they lose ALL their DPS.

I think the argument here is that most TP-based classes do not have a cast time (you can argue about BRD and MCH, sure), so there's no reason for them to ever stand still (which honestly gives them a 1-second head start when moving out of an aoe compared to casters).

Anyway, most dps classes do have a disengage move that functions like a combat roll (with a cost much less than 200TP and a CD on par with sprint). It just requires a little more attention to where you're rolling towards.

As for tanks, they're generally right next to the boss and so can easily duck behind it or to the side. Sprint doesn't really help when the tank turns an unlimited-range cone gaze attack on the casters in the back who have to sprint a full 10 seconds to escape out of the aoe. Tanks also don't generally get their entire screen filled with an aoe either. Just try a synced Ultima HM sometime. It's good fun.

There's also no full 360 degree aoe that can't be interrupted or run out of normally (without sprint) either.

I don't know if I'd call it significantly more except for BLM. Every other mage has multiple instant casts/abilities (that get used in rotation/priority) that they can usually move without worry. Certainly not enough of a difficulty to justify saying TP jobs deserve to loose all of it. BRD/MCH are pretty mobile even in caster stance, but it's a moot point since they're using TP.

BLMs can swiftcast if needed. Yes its not optimal and at the end of it BLMs do get hurt more by having to move but by the time you are at a lvl where missing a cast is severely detrimental to the party's efforts you should know how long it will take to cast and have bit of an idea when aoes will appear so you can plan.

It's pointless to move as soon as an AOE marker appears if there is still 2secs cast time for the enemy and your skill has already started casting. In the words of yoshida get gud.

Melees just no, no. You have reason to complain about moving, I played caster and melee at savage raid lvl before heavensward and you it's not a problem, stop panicking and move.
