    Glamour Codex (Inventory Space Saver)

As a casual player, one of the main reasons I keep coming back to Final Fantasy XIV is the great diversity of armor/weapon/clothing options. I like to change outfits frequently, and I like to experiment. I am active on the "fashion show" circuit (if there can be said to be such a thing). Recently, with the massive expansion of gear options in Heavensward, I have been on fashionista overload. My retainers and my inventory are filling up fast.

My idea is: Why not create a "Glamour Codex" which is a log of which armor/weapon models a player has unlocked, which can then be used to glamour items without having to clog inventory space on the retainers (and perhaps on your servers). This would turn Glamours into a collectible, like minions. I don't mind at all still having to use a glamour prism to actually GLAMOUR an item, but it could pull from the Codex instead of the inventory instead.

I'm not sure how complicated this would be, but it is an idea I had.

This actually reminds me of DC Universe Online. The "glamour" system there was pretty simple and I hoped FFXIV would be similiar to it. Every piece of equipment has some sort of "look" attached to it, which if equipped once, is saved on the character. Those looks you collect as you collect equipment. Once equipped the equipment gets bound to you. Now as this could be a problem in situations like "I want to sell this robe but I'm gonna wear it first just to see how it looks" there could always be the option (here comes what the OP said) to save the glamour of the item (with the help of an item, the glamour book). In DCUO there was a menu (which you could access at all times) which listed all the looks (and hairstyles you could buy with in game money and I think even being able to adjust skin color) you could change the appearance of your character at will. You could also "lock" your appearance so if new equipment was equipped, it would keep the appearance of the old gear.

It boggles my mind how every flavour of the month MMO can support a system like this, but Yoshida continues to use the server limitations excuse. Are they running FFXIV on a few million potatoes? A dead WildStar managed it, a F2P Guild Wars 2 did it and gave us a multicolour dye system and yet a wildly successful MMO can't.

Because of the armoury system and the already quite large inventory space compared to others MMOs, the data per character in this game is quite large.

The armoury system can store 200ish items (haven't checked), that's nothing in comparison to the potential thousands a wardrobe system would achieve. That's not the best comparison and just proves my point further. If it was an issue with data per character, then make it account wide similar to WoW's mount system. But of course they wouldn't do that, due to it actually requiring them to improve their archaic servers (I'm starting to believe what people say about them using old FFXI servers).

Yes, that's the one thing I liked from DCUO. A codex or book that keeps track of all your glamours items. I wouldn't mind having to destory the item to add it to the book (items become unsellable if used for glamours anyways). It would cut sooo much space.

I think the issue isn't that they haven't thought about such a system, but their current architecture wont allow it. Perhaps it will get an overhaul but until it does they are stuck working with what they have.

I'm not expecting a feature like this anytime soon as much as it would be fantastic. I suspect hoping for it is unrealistic. Its not a small thing.
