Now. I see that this CptnGamble also stated the exact same thing in your other thread you mentioned up above. This has me furious. Not only did he insult us all by calling us, "Fanboi", he insulted me personally when he called himself one. It's just called fan. Everyone who ever played Final Fantasy knows exactly what roles are played by certain characters. Also, yes.....Some games previously produced by SE with the Final Fantasy title has along the same lines this system in play in it's core. However....They are not the same.
When we look at just a few such as FF7 & FFX (I'm going to use these two because I love 'em both.) yes, they did have a system in relation to this. The difference is that these are based on a single-player experience. What made XI so unique & popular as it's first MMO was the fact that they went a different direction and added more restrictions to certain roles we carry. If they would've added the same approach from FFX to FFXI in terms of being able to be whatever you want then we'd have 18 people in the same party who are no more different from each other than biological twins in the womb. Different personalities, yet same traits.
I'm not saying I hate the current system. I'm not saying go back to FFXI. I'm trying to say that I want some more definition in this game as far as classes go. People can say that I'm being scornful to this debate, but really I'm not. There are a lot of reasons as to why the population across the servers has dwindled, and this is just one of many reasons why. (Content such as missions and NM's in not a major reason as someone once said. It's just one of many.)
These classes are boring, and tossing more abilities like icing over a booger cake system is not going to make it more delicious. The problem cannot be solved in terms of covering up the fact that as of right now there is no definition of different roles so let's throw some more abilities in there! That'll help! No. It won't help. You need to make the current abilities we have more exclusive to the class it comes from. Someone said that they like having Chakra(Or whatever) from Pugilist to use on their Lancer. That's fine by me. That move alone doesn't break the uniqueness of the class, but you need to implement a deduction for using it on a different class.
If you're thinking right now that if it's ok to use a Pugilist's Chakra ability then why not all of them? No. The reason why this worked in FFXI was because you could only use half of the abilities when using it as a sub job. Not all of them. This can go a longway into making classes more role specific. You can't be a Lancer and tank as effectively as a Gladiator. That completely defeats the purpose of a role in which certain classes are destined to excell greater than others. Let's just say that Thaumaturge is WHM for this argument. A Thaumaturge should not be able to deal damage as a class who's role is that of dealing damage.
This game permits too much freedom right now and makes it too boring....Sure, I can level all seven classes right now to pick and choose from an assortment of abilities, but to me it feels like 300 levels of one class right now than 50 levels of seven classes.
CptnGamble you said SE should hold our hands because we're whining for FFXI? No. We want a better system. Plain and simple! And also it's better to hold our hands to implement restrictions rather than let us run rampant like we're kids in a candy store with a "No Touch!" sign on the glass.
Edit: Sorry if that seemed as if I was lashing out. I wasn't trying to so if it does I'm sorry. I'm simply stating some things on my mind that needs to be heard rather than ignored. And yes, I'm a little angry as to those who ignore all suggestions and tell me to go back to FFXI. If I go back to FFXI, you go back to WoW or Aion or where ever you came from, because it clearly wasn't from FFXI.
