Okay, so I have decided to make my own type of column of which I talk about various topics, patches, and self theory crafting session (I normally theory craft with Clash Blades and Areeya Jaidee). Anyhoo, this will be issue 1 of my weekly column installments where you get the winnings of Gath and the actual perspective of a third party who knows what actually makes an MMO an MMO, what makes a FF title an FF title, and most importantly, breaking down the less intelligent responses and thoughts of these "new generation" gamers.
This column will also have the quote of the week, be if from a DEV or Community Representative, that will lighten the moods and hopes (hopefully) to the readers on certain topics. As more ideas pop up, I will implement them in later columns, I am open to just about any ideas and will gladly take them in email via evil.god.sephiroth@gmail.com (I have had this email for like 6 years, and am not going to change it!)
It seems that a lot has been going on around the community since the implementation of patch 1.19, there have been a lot of positive responses, but on the same level there has been many complaints about the game. Now, everybody has valid reasons why they don't like certain things, and how it would make THEM happy if they did certain things to the game. I can't say for certain if there is ONE big issue that everybody is concerned about, but there are a few.
The recent buff to MRD has people raging, it has them going on about how they're OP, or how they are the replacement to ARC grinds on Batraal. This may be true, but, in any MMO everybody has their downs and everybody has their UPs. Let MRD have their fun while it lasts, how a game normally works is that in some way or another 1 or 2 classes are completely OP in certain situations. I don't see a MRD keeping a tank alive, nor do I see a MRD who can barrage enemies from afar when the enemy is not approachable. It just depends, and I do know they hit hard, that's what I would expect from a big axe, massive, skull cleaving damage. While they can Maim to debuff the mobs, you have other classes that actually bring their own Zazz into the mix. PUG, for example, it has it's Concussive Blow, which lowers the target's accuracy, and you have Victimize, which lowers it's attack power. ARC has it's long range attacks and it's Bloodletter.
These are just examples that everybody has something to bring to the table now that makes the classes a class. They may still be in a "grey" area, but, they are starting to mold into something that we can all a class, give it time, it may balance out. Not everybody has the same gear, not everybody has multiple Materia yet, but give it time, things might just iron down to the point to where you might want a bit more diversity with classes in your groups.
I have seen many threads that are very difficult to take seriously because they just imply something that is completely the opposite of what an MMO is. An example i the thread that states that we should have a choice on if we want to start out at rank 50 or not. I find that very hard to understand because it goes against everything an MMO is supposed to be. An MMO need to have some sort of character growth in levels, it's like growing up in life, you can't just automatically become a responsible adult. There are also underlying factors to leveling and spending time working on your character, to mold him into something that could possibly be a great character, depending on if the player is bad or not. You grow attached to your characters in FF MMOs because you can have the same one no matter what you want to do. I have grown quite fond of my red-headed, red-eyed, stubborn Lalafell, his Chucky-like features are just something I fell in love with in this virtual world.
I find that fact that people are running out of bad things to say about the game a very delightful sight, but, in placement of it, we see all these ideas that just go against what the game is heading to. I love this game, and I agree, they have had a lot of bad things in the past and still have bad things now, but, that number of bad has been turned into a great concept and is being implemented right. If people want to complain about the game, let them, SE will just completely change your minds on where the game is at. If I am having a blast right now with this patch and it is technically half way to the point of where they think the game should be at this point, then I am excited to see what else they throw at us.
The forums went from bleak, dark, and depressing, to something that is filled with ideas (Both good and bad). I like a lot of the initiative people are taking to help better this community and game, it makes me a bit more prideful of my community I am in when I see someone who takes the initiative and come up with an idea. I do care if it is a bad idea or not, but them showing us a side of creativity shows they have more faith in the game than those who just complain about good things.
Like i have been saying I have noticed A LOT of positiveness in this game right now since patch 1.19, it feels like a big weight taken off my shoulders. I am happy with how a lot of the community is giving out calls in support of the patch. The patch does have it's own bugs, however, this is what happens with any patch in any game, they have their bugs and take a couple weeks to iron them flat. Keeping this positive attitude will keep this game a much better place, and I am looking forward top the day where people have too much in game tasks to complete in a day, to where people are wishing for more hours in a day.
Well, that's it for this column of The Law of Gathematics, so keep your eyes peeled for next's weeks column. I will have a lot more to say and have a lot more of Gath shenanigans. I appreciate any input, bad or good, but keep it clean and refrain from negativity in here, this is supposed to b a letter than players can enjoy reading and gain ideas to help this game.
Remember, feel free to comment!
My 1 gil is worth more than your 1 gil.
