    Random halls in Ishgard

I'm building Ishgard in Minecraft (the whole thing) and I've been at it for a few days, but I keep finding this kind of hallway that leads nowhere. Does anyone know their purpose? I can see it keeps going around the corner, but to where?

    1) I commend you if you are taking the time to do this. I know how time consuming building maps, (particularly to scale), in Minecraft can be......

    2) It's probably purely decorative. If you look around the city, and particularly off the edges, there are A LOT of areas we can't reach that seem like they would be interesting to explore....

    3) If you're asking as to the purpose in terms of theoretically structuring it as a real city, then I would guess it's a form of balcony/walkway surrounding the building in question, both allowing access to different rooms of the building that they don't want connected inside, and allowing you to get some fresh air from whatever rooms it connects.....

Well, for more precision, the hallways always end like this at some extremity:

And normally they're on the sides of the grounds that actually have things on them. For instance, this is below where Haillenarte Manor is located:

Which means the rest of the hall actually goes under the Last Vigil's platform. If you take a look around, you can see that the hallways seems to be continuing all the way to the other side, under Fortemps Manor.
The real question is though, does that mean there's some way to access it from underneath? I thought maybe the Fortemps Manor or the Haillenarte Manor led there, but I don't think both manors would lead to the same hallway.

Bumping only because this shouldn't fall into obscurity. Please take more screenshots!

Well, if you insist. I'm heading to sleep for the day, but here's a look from bird's eye view of the entire project so far: (estimated around four and a half million blocks for the time being)

Hmm. Looking at it in person in game, I've noticed that it has a clear view of towards the outer walls of the city. From what little you can see of the platform that makes up Last Vigil, it doesn't extend downward past the point that the hallway would be. It's possible that stationed underneath Last Vigil itself some sort of guard barracks for the military, and that balcony serves as a location for archerers/cannon users to safely fight draconic attack, while being protected from overhead by Last Vigil. Other than theorizing such as that though, I can't say for sure......

Though I can say with certainty that Ishgard is a far bigger city than the map movement suggests. With other maps within the game, you are moving from one visible point to another, particularly within the city, but with Ishgard when you move from one map to the next, you're not only moving a great distance on the map lengthwise, but also changing elevation by a high amount. This is evidenced with how looking down from the edge of Last Vigil you can see the arching walls down far below just above the cloud layer. You can see these same walls, (or what I take to be the same walls, since they are the highest ones you can see from both locations), far above when you are in the Foundation area. This implies that there are MASSIVE sections of the city hidden in between that we can't explore. That would likely make the location you're noting as just the topmost layer of those hidden sections. Compound this with the fact that there also seems to be at least an entire sublayer below Foundation, (there are pathways leading downward that we can't access in the slums), and I imagine there is far more to this city than what we can possibly see in game.....

After you've brought this hallway section to my attention, which in turn caused me to explore the area a bit, I'm really hoping that at some point they expand on the city itself some in the future. There's potentially enough unused space here to fit all three of the other city-states in combined, which intrigues me......

I can say with certainty that we explore maybe 25% of Ishgard's actual ground, and the winding staircases that go up and down from Pillars to Foundation actually take hours to take, which is absolutely impractical. And 25% is being generous with it. I know that someone else built Ishgard before, but it was only Ishgard based on the trailer before Heavensward was released. As such, it looks great from outside, but inside? It's just floating walls for the most part. Needless to say, I'll inspire myself from what they've done when I'll get around to doing those parts, but I strongly doubt that the final product will look like the Ishgard from the trailer. It's practically impossible to build it with any sense of scale and then be able to see it that way later on. (Not to mention, I started building the highest level first which may not have been such a good idea since I have to keep cutting and pasting them up, and let me tell you pasting 960k blocks at once takes a minute or two of wait so the entire process goes through as it stands. I fear it might crash the game sometime.)

The arches (that also repeat very often) are a couple hundred meters off the south of Pillars, and also much lower on the y axis. Contrast the Foundation where those arches are barely visible in the distance up north, and the winding staircases that lead from one to the other actually are very, very, very tall. I've no idea how I will populate the remaining areas, and the entire size of Ishgard leads me to believe if there ever will be Ishgard housing, it will probably be in another instanced map within Ishgard. After all, the city is big enough to house all 3 other main cities within itself, if we're including the areas we can't go to. If that's the case, most likely I should wait before building anything more than just Pillars and Foundation. Already it's tons of work anyway, and housing may shed some light as to how the other areas look like.

Thank you all for the support, I'll try to keep this updated with more new as I go along. I originally wanted to only post it when it would be complete, but since I keep running into small issues like these, I wanted to see if someone else might have the key to my problems. It's not the first time I ran into a dysfunctional build (I'm looking at you, Palace of Azad, where I followed the game's trajectory and ended up on the absolute other side of the palace while the game treated it like it was a couple rooms over.)

Damn you're really going all out on that! Good luck with that project!

As for the hallways, yeah they're most likely purely decorative. There may actually be a logical end to the hallways, perhaps a door that leads to some room some NPC would use for whatever reason, but we don't need to know for what (probably something kinky, I should think ;D those Ishgardian types man, never know what they're up to behind the scenes).

I am in awe. This is beyond amazing. You must have been that kid who never needed the instruction books in LEGO kits.
