About 24 man raid next month!

Its called Void ark yes but I find it strangely familiar to pandemonium from ff9.......... just going by art design I can see alot of similarities from ff9.

Ps. just thought I'd make the thread for a discussion on it and what the 24 man raid could be a reference to from past games because crystal tower was obviously ff3.

I think the Void Ark is a nice balance between alien and scifi, while Pandemonium is more just alien.

But it's not a reference to anything, Yoshida said it's completely original.

Awwww I was hoping it to be a reference to one of the earlier games but if its an original raid then you can't really go wrong with that........I hope.

I don't know, if CT was any indication I wouldn't be surprised if it's packed with references.

On the other hand, as with Ravana, the Dev team has said they want to do some of their own original stuff too, so we'll see.

Love the melancholy of the 90's but yes Eorzea needs fresh things and not only recycled old content.

There are 13 other games just in the main series alone. I don't think at this point it is possible to make anything that is 100% unique and never seen before in a Final Fantasy game.

I'm honestly fine with either or. So far FFXIV is by far the game in the series that most makes it feel like a "series" rather than a group of random games that simply share a name, (spin offs like Dissidia not counting obviously). I love all the references to past games, and all the content that is throw backs to them, even if I've only been a particular fan of a few of the main series games, (namely IV and X). The call backs have actually prompted me to learn quite a bit about some of the games I missed or didn't play all the way through.....

That being said, more original content is always great as well, since it means that future games will have more that they will be able to draw from XIV if they decide to make references or call backs. Right now, there isn't much besides a few characters. Plus it means that people won't be able to claim "it's different than the original" as a reason behind why they don't like it. Less reasons for people to complain is never a bad thing, even if it'll never stop it entirely......

As for the raid itself, I'm excited. Not being a big MMO fan prior to XIV, (due to most having practically forced partying in even overworld content, while not having a good way to group up, or due to boring gameplay/story in general), I was excited when I played the Crystal Tower raids the first few times simply due to the number of people working towards a singular goal. While I know it'll be chaos and a home for trolls and "carry me" players not too long after it's out, it'll still be fun if you get a good group......

As a person in the game industry, I can attest that working on original content is much funner than rehashing old material. I'm sure they'd like more opportunity to leave their own creative mark on the series, regardless on how many iterations there have already been. The same could be said about other fantasy games, or any games, or any art in general, that everything's been done before (which is one of the biggest challenges in the art field). That doesn't preclude people from trying to be creative and tell their own story.
