    I am trying to understand why everyone doesn't want a melee bard like role for Red Mage. Then it can do melee damage, buff/heal people, have spells, and look cool doing it all. The Red Mage of FFXI could do a little bit of everything and as close as you can get to that role in FFXIV is bard.

    Whatever they do for red mage will be fine as long as people understand that it will not be the job it was in FFXI.

    It isn't about whether or not people want RDM, but rather, it's about how RDM should/could be implemented in this game.
    Everyone has their own idea of how they want RDM to be, but most suggestions aren't really viable for FFXIV's combat model.

    A Redmage changing stances to tank wouldn't work in this game the same way it worked in FFXI. The cross class abilities allowed for more versatility in FFXI. At release I played a Redmage and I was put in the "support healer" category because healers were few and far between. I didn't get a chance to play as dps or off tanking much.
    SE could (with careful design) make the Redmage work as a tank/dps/healer type but they would be the "Jack of all Trades" job like they were in FFXI. They would most likely be dps with the ability to off heal and off tank in certain situations (maybe)

    I'd like to see the job added but not like it was before. Mainly because the games are totally different in design and job mechanics and I don't think the Redmage would fit in if it's design is like it was in FFXI.
