Do you know how many other threads I've explained this in, only to get slapped in the face because on these forums I'm always wrong? I'd rather not. And countless of other people have stated the same things, but takes you to ignore them.
I don't "put down" valid reasons. If you give a valid reason, then there won't be a problem. The very fact that you're hesitant to name your reasons suggests you don't have one.It affects me in a lot of ways that you are only going to put down even more to make your point better.
Other people minding their own business doing their own thing does not affect you in any direct way whatsoever, unless they're like hogging the monsters you want to fight or something. That doesn't mean that they don't need to fix this issue, but you're blowing it way out of proportion.

Like, because in a MMO, players are completely separated from each other?Other people minding their own business doing their own thing does not affect you in any direct way whatsoever
Of course I am envious. And as I don't want to be left behind in the dust, I will ultimately adapt and use powerleveling as well (I already tried it today).
Not because I like to. In fact, it runs contrary to pretty much everything I expect from a "good" leveling experience (party interaction, tactical challenges, thrilling combat). But it is the most efficient way.
And honestly, when it takes me 5 times longer to reach the "meaningful" content by conventional means (and before it is trodden to death by PL'ed idiots), I would have to be pretty stupid to not do it.

Clearly you didn't read his entire post. The only way it can affect you on a level that actually matters is if they are taking all of the mobs you're trying to kill. The easiest solution would be to go to the next area. Just because a person has friends willing to power level them does not mean your game play or experience is diminished in anyway. If fact I ran into this myself yesterday. A LNC was power leveling his lvl 5 friend where I was killing mobs, he was nice enough to invite me and another person to the group while he killed mobs. Had he not invited me I would simply move to another area, not hard to do.Originally Posted by Rinsui

By that logic: why doesn't SE hand out artifact weapons for free?
After all, the whole mumbo-jumbo until max level and gear should be completely optional anyway?

Well, obviously you didn't read my post at all.Clearly you didn't read his entire post. The only way it can affect you on a level that actually matters is if they are taking all of the mobs you're trying to kill.
The problem is the connectedness of players in a MMO, not whether I made some puny EXP in that situation or not.
Rings a bell?
My god, the only way these threads could be made worse is if /b/ invaded.
I think the downside of Power Leveling is pretty clear:
It ruins the whole point of the game.
Why is there mid level content if people just want to skip over it to get to 50?
Why is there any gear below 40?
If SE is OK with people speeding their way through levels, they might as well do away with half of the game. They're practically saying that their game isn't worth experiencing.
That's the truth of it.
This isn't a game where reaching level cap means "You win!"
It's a game where you interact with other people as you struggle to grow and EXPERIENCE the game. Is it really fun to go stomping through a low level dungeon by yourself at level 50? Really? What have you gained by being level 50 in two weeks (or however long it takes with these PL parties)? Did you gain new friends? Can you recall fond memories of when times were harder but you still pulled through?
No. You can't, because you exploited the game, and in doing so cheated yourself out of any enjoyment you could have had.

If you're talking aboutNo they are not separated from each other, but they are not forced to play with you.Originally Posted by Rinsui

Finally you did edit your post while I was replying to your original post.

You guys ought to consider that many of the people you see being PL'd have other jobs at 50 already and are working on getting sub-skills.
I'm not huge on PL'ing but I really can't get as incensed about it as others here. For the entirety of my gaming career, there have always been ways to skip content, whether it's a cheat code or ways to advance to later levels of the game once you've already beaten it once. This is no different.

The only viable argument against power leveling affecting players, that CHOSE not to power level, is the fact that groups will kill mobs faster taking the EXP in an area. I agree completely with that argument BUT there are many ways to play the game and many areas to gain EXP. You are not locked into one area for EXP gain, simply move somewhere else if the power leveling party is camping that zone, they are freeing up the entire map by staying put. If they were roaming then you can still gain EXP because the respawn timer on mobs is very fast from what I have noticed.
Right now I'm leveling my character until my friend decides to start playing again. If she wants to be powerleveld to catch up to my highest level class, i should be able to do so. If she decides she wants to be slower about it, i can switch jobs and play something else until she is at my main class level.
Finally, after we both reach rank 50 on a specific job, I don't want to have to do it all over again, I want her to powerlevel my second class, and ill do the same for her.
