A question I had from a while ago regarding the new character process/codes...

So I bought the game at pre-release, before it was Realm Reborn, and played it to level 30 before I wanted to claw my eyes out with soft taco shells.

I then came back a year later, after it was re-released, and enjoyed it for about 10 levels, but I quit for a year and some change.

I then came back again, and am playing again.

I do not have access to my pre-order items anymore? (;_, nor was I able to use a "new player" code. Was this intentional in design, or an oversight? I would have liked to use a new player code as someone I met was offering to mentor new players and give them a mil just for using his code, and that cash would have been super helpful (as well as the emotes and the other items associated), but I was not able to get anything.

I feel like out of all the new players, I drew the biggest handicap in that I apparently wasn't new enough to get new player benefits? I'm level 51 now (and still poor, haha), so it's not really relevant anymore, but just thought I'd ask if it was intentional.

It can be confusing. There are a variety of different "new" statuses. The "Refer a Friend" codes don't care what level you are; they care whether you have subscribed yet. So if you've already added subscription time to the account, then it is too late for a code indicating you have been referred.

You can, however, still receive the fist bump emote (and even more than you would get as a referred player) by referring another yourself (if by chance you have a friend that doesn't yet play or something).

You should have access to your preorder items. Even when I roll a completely new character, I get all the legacy, preorder, vet rewards, basically everything. There is a button on the mogmail interface that lets you request things more quickly.

As Evek said... you've paid subscription time, and refer-a-friend codes are only for those with no sub time on their accounts.

Coming back again would mean buying subscription time for your earlier account, right? That could account for not being eligible for the Recruit a Friend program, as it's only available to players who haven't gotten that far. It has to be added after purchase of the game but before any subscription fees are paid. As EveK mentioned, though, you can get the rewards by referring someone else. (Well, you'd get the rewards SE gives at any rate. Not rewards another player decides to offer for whoever uses their code.)

It doesn't answer why you lost pre-order status, though. You should have all the 1.0 (and I believe ARR) pre-order items unlocked for all characters. (Though Heavensward has a separate set of pre-order items only available if you pre-ordered HW.)

Thank you all for your responses!

I have not pre-ordered ARR. I still have the collector's edition box from my original order, complete with the authentication keychain thing, a map, hardcover booklet thing, and the pre-order codes. The codes didn't work though when I tried to apply them to my account again and they didn't exist on my account already. I'd thought maybe SOE broke something with that between original launch and a month ago.

    Oh I see...

For that, contact support. SE support is hit and miss so you might need to try a few times.

If you never applied a code from the 2010 edition, I believe it's too late for them to be accepted now. Eventually those were pulled from store shelves and the codes were invalidated.

Also, this game is made by Square Enix, which one could theoretically abbreviate SE. Not Sony Online Entertainment, which would be SOE, who has nothing at all to do with it. =)
