I loved fighting Odin. After an unsuccessful FC attempt at Ravana EX last night, I found myself wishing more fights could be like Odin.
I loved Odin because it felt like a test of my overall abilities as a player, not a test of how well the entire group had memorized the fight.
All the mechanics of the fight were straight forward without an artificial learning curve. DPS had to kill the adds. Tanks could see the tank buster on a cast bar and mitigate instead of having to memorize a rotation. AOEs had markers on the ground so you knew where not to stand. People took plenty of damage that needed to be healed. If people screwed up, they took more damage but didn't necessarily die outright. If some players were not skilled enough or made mistakes, other players (especially the healers) could pick up the slack.
In contrast, Ravana has a huge learning curve of new things specific to that one fight. It doesn't matter how good of a player you are: if you don't know where to stand and how to handle each mechanic, people die and the party wipes. When people screw up a mechanic, they take enough damage to die outright, so healers are helpless and there is no margin for error.
I know that is par for the course for Ex primals and raids (although Bismarck Ex wasn't so bad). If anyone from SE is listening, you guys did a great job with Odin and I would love to see future content that is more like Odin in the ways I described.
