    Element system needs changes?

    Currently it looks like the element system takes no real role in this game... A Final Fantasy game... (Unless I\\'m wrong)
    I was thinking of how they could change it and wound up possibly fixing this crafted gear dilemma in the process.


    First off, all/most enemies and bosses have elemental aspection. Some can be drastic like Shiva being all about Ice, and some like Alexander being more neutral overall. Elements effect their damage on certain skills and overall defense.
    Elements have different effects depending on the player\\'s class role.
    --Tanks get defensive bonuses/deficiencies from elemental attacks that they are aspected to.
    --Healers get healing bonuses/deficiencies to players with elemental aspections, depending on the healer\\'s element.
    --DPS get damage bonuses/deficiencies to enemies with elemental aspections.

    This also effects the crafted gear in the game in order to make it work.
    --Stat caps are removed(Or put on a large the global cap, compounding all equipment bonus stats) for all stats besides primary (Str, Vit, ect).
    --Allow players to carry multiple sets of the same high-end craft equipment for switching elemental loadouts on the fly.

    I thought this change would put crafted sets on the map by giving them the ability to be highly customized to fit the situations. Raid Loot gear would be more neutral and powerful overall but crafted could be adjusted to be optimized for specific bosses and situations, without over-powering them and causing Raid gear to be garbage. This could also create all kinds of new party combinations, synergies, and strategies

    What do you guys think? Does the element system need big changes?

    this is just to help you if you didn't know about it cause there are some people who don't and i just read a thread where someone didn't know about it. Well even i was told about it a year ago. I was astonished as well, but i felt exhilaration as well as an emptiness fill inside me.

    You can copy what you cant fit into the thousand character limit and then use the edit function and paste it into your original post. The character restriction is well... well i don't know why its there really. Maybe i do. Ya i don't know.

    This is the one single thing that feels very un-Final Fantasy to me. Even if it was slight, there should be some elemental impact.

    I agree, there needs to be something. We had it in 1.x series, worked fine...felt very much like Final Fantasy, Yoshida did a good job of having it in 1.x

    I hope that elements and their resistances will be reinvented someday in future.
    Even if we would have them only in expansion and its fights and areas.

    They would have to make it work with boss mechanics, like Scylla's water puddles to increase fire resistance. Otherwise, when you start adding in gear that gives resistance (and becomes required for specific content), it kinda exasperates the already-stingy inventory space we have or pigeon hole the use of resistance pots.

    Sadly its not likely to change unless they overhaul THM/BLM, because they only have Fire/Ice/Lightning, and the devs fear something like the elemental wheel keeping people from including certain classes/jobs. They're going to keep to this little statement probably until the game sees its end.

    Meanwhile, I'm sure everyone looks at the Elemental Resistances, as well as the Status Ailments and Damage Type resistances... and see all that wasted character data that could be better put towards... I dunno, another 25 inventory slots per character maybe? Heck we have 75 for Key Items... has ANYONE even had a full tab(25) of these? That's 50 available slots that are WASTED.

    The only change it needs is to be removed altogether with the status resistance and put currency back in the main character window.

    Honestly, if you are not going to bother to make a proper elemental and status system, just don`t do it at all. This: http://irowiki.org/wiki/Element or GTFO.

    Enemies do deal elemental damage and players did stack up resistance materia against them. Early on in 2.0, players would slot their accessories with Earth materia to better survive Titan's tableflip and earthquakes. However it was a stopgap measure as higher ilevels were much more effective in increasing survivability and pushing through phases than overmelding materia. And crafted gear never quite caught on the same way in raids or farm, hence the current situation.

    Also, do not expect hard-coded elemental attributes like half-damage, null-damage, double-damage, and absorb to be included on bosses or for players. There's too much of a chance to exploit for that type of system.
