If a Fire Mage can use debuffs to remove Fire Resistance and do the same amount of damage as a Frost Mage, then what was the point of the elemental system again?

yeah, why make this game harder and more complex, its just add more work for no reason, maybe better if they just delete elemental, status and physical resistance altogether. and for next just delete the bonus attribute feature, because allocating bonus stats in this game is make everything complicated for no reason too, what the point to have a customizeable bonus status, if one status>>>>>other status
after that apply linear BiS, with only 1 set per 10 ilvl so every player have a chance to get best equip in game. delete crafting system, they already in the right path when they make crafting is obsolete for battle class, next just make NPC sell raid food and potion because buying HQ food and potion from other player is too expensive and not accessible for everyone and just delete crafting and gathering class next. and delete the gil, because stopping gil seller and spammer is too much work. sell every equip food and potion in game for untradeable token.
simple game is fun isnt it?
Why not? Then I could go farm my stuff faster and waste less time.
I really, really, really hate elemental resists and the like. There's zero fun in having to build up fifteen million different gear sets all for specific fights. >_>
They'll never do this. They would have to completely reworked the whole battle system. Yoshida and team think that the general player base can't comprehend "complicated" aspects like elemental affinity. Even defense is useless cause in most cases, survivability for certain fights are determined by the amount of HP you have. Example would be titan hm with 3600 HP. BLM would be completely useless in a lot of content with it's Super Mario flower fireballs. Speaking of which, is probably on of the most disappointing things in this game.
