Am I the only one that though the graphics from 1.0 was fine minus the optimization issues? I liked the open world that I could run through...
no, it doesn't.
commuting is a terrible waste of time in real life, doing it in a video game is even worse.
Oh, no, the graphics were great! Too great... only gaming rigs could run the game at any decent level. This was one of many problems with the game, accessibility. You want alot of subscribing players you need accessibility. The repeating terrain wasn't an issue of graphics, it was an issue of overly reused map assets.
Ah well, the whole accessibility issue is a moot point though, I'd rather it be released as great as it can be and years down the road it wont feel so out of touch with other games being released. People upgrade rigs to play new games, that's just how it is. I'm using the same AMD phemon2 OC'd to 3.8ghz to play now that I was using during 1.0, had 8gb ram and some lower Radeon HD 8 series or another I don't remember and they ran it great.
I'm not necessarily into "ridiculously detailed flowerpots" but I did like the attention to detail. I honestly thought it was more or less optimization issues holding the game back during 1.0.
Current technology can't handle seemless worlds like they could a decade ago. I'm guessing our tech now sucks ass or programmers do :P
Gaming is a salesman pitch word, it means nothing but higher price for inferior parts. I could run 1.0 fine at high settings on a 965BE Amd and it wasn't tearing or artifacting.
"...one of many problems..." was what I believe I said. That aside you do know that the average Japanese gamer isn't running the latest gaming computer. Neither is the average US gamer, for that matter. It's a matter of cost, we save up to buy a computer then ask said computer to last us for years at a time in an industry whose shelf life is measured in months. This is the virtue of the console. Low price point and a shelf life measured in years. As such, you can't cater to the high end gaming rig consumer, you cater to the median if you want the most consumers. Accessibility is key.
Obviously haven`t played Black Desert.
The level of detail in a seamless world and optimization is just incredible. I get 60 FPS at high-ultra on there, while here i get anything arround from 50-60 on mid-high (no HBAO)... Bad optimization and bad engine is what FFXIV suffers and thats it. And yeah, if every problem of this game is server related, there is a big chance that programmers working here don`t do the best of jobs...
@OP , speaking as someone who would love to see seamless world back. I know that they will never do it with this game. Even if ps3 support does drop and they do buy better servers still, it will never happen. I guess if it was a big issue for me I would quite and go play another game. So far it hasn't been a complete deal breaker but it is heart sickening to know it will never happen. That's how much I love and appreciate a open world that is seamless. My guess is as we see more and more mobile games from them and other companies this will become our norm these days. I blame it on instant gratification cause a truly open world does not make anything instant for many folks.
