Memory is a bit fuzzy, but didn't HW Combat ventures start out by brining back 5 items and caps out at 10 items with full high level gear?

Speaking of gathering retainers, is level 55 the highest they can go for 18 hour ventures?

Around 578-ish Gathering is required to bring back the max 30 of the highest level crafting mats from regular 1hr ventures for gatherer retainers. Perception does affect how often and how much HQ they bring back, but it is still pretty random. There seems to be threshold below which they will never bring back HQ items, but I not sure what it is. When I didn't bother with any Perception gear, my retainers never brought back HQ items, when I decked them out with the best stuff, they sometimes brought back no HQ, sometimes full 30 HQ, and anywhere in between.

For battle retainers, i150 is the bare minimum to bring back the max 10 of the highest level mats, and I assume ilevel also affects HQ rate.

Quick ventures are completely random regardless of your retainers stats or levels or gear or anything. The only thing that makes a difference is Gathering (ilevel for battle retainers) for the "items most rare", which is actually not a very large pool of items, most of which are mostly useless now in 3.0. Super rare stuff like EX primal mats and coil rare drops are just super rare tier items, with nothing you can do to increase (or decrease) your chances of getting them.

18hr ventures have a relatively disappointing selection of mats, even at the level 51 and level 55 ventures. At the 51 and 55 level you always get a small pile of allagan pieces, and then some random mat needed for the zodiac crafted mats, or the forager/supra/lucis gathering tools, or rosemary/virgin basilisk eggs for Tinker's Calms. The only real purpose of these is the super rare returns. The level 51 ventures bring back the same rare minions and rare mats that the level 50 ventures did, things like Floss Silk, Fat Cats, and the like. Level 55 also brings back these rare items, along with Iron Giant Scraps (Miner), Lupin Seedling ( Botanist), Bear Skin (Hunter), and Gestahl (Fisher).

They even have some of the rare 1.0 leve drops if rumors are to be believed.

They do in some stuff. Pudding flesh is a hunt option. I think the hunt is 6 an hour but I've done it many times and I always get 9. Always 2 and 7. Most times 2 HQ, 7 NQ but it has on a few occasions gone the other way around.

Mine brings back dye regularly. Arcanist. Two of them, but one hunt for stuff to sell.

No gathering retainers. Mixed dungeon gear, though Kyn is wearing my old healing accessories. Wish she could wear my old healer gear...

For now, yes. But like in 2.x new 18h ventures will be adding during main patches. The lv60 18h ventures would start to give out rare mats (like the lv50 ones do).
