    Gil seller spam is intolerable

All day every day it's nonstop. It's way beyond anything in other games, Square Enix can only be encouraging it or even doing it themselves with how bad it is. Blacklisting the spammers does absolutely nothing but fill your limited blacklist space. I won't even think of subscribing or buying the expansion pack until this problem is fixed.

Eh, honestly, it's the worst thing we have to deal with here. And that's ok. People play other games and glaze over terrible design, balance, P2W, etc. Its annoying but easily ignored.

Also, if you think one person threatening to not buy the expac is gonna change anything, best of luck to you.

I, too, have noticed how prevalent the gil selling spam is. Coming from WoW, I would never imagine another game could be quite as bad.

However, I'm not letting it affect my playing. It's easy to ignore, and the sound effect of the personal message is kind of cute lol

A quick fix is to simply put /busy on. It'll prevent you from getting tells from friends as well. But hey, that's why we have linkshells and FC's!

Sounds like Leviathan is still having RMT problems.. I honestly have had maybe .. three? Three tells since HW came out? And zero friend request spam.

Clearly, the best Final Fantasy character is Locke Cole.

Unfortunately, /busy also blocks a number of other things, like party invites, trades, and so on. After the first time I tried shouting for an invite forgetting I had /busy set and couldn't get one, I changed tactics. Now I just removed the /tell messages from my main chat tab, relegating them to a separate tab I don't normally watch.

I did actually decide to keep the notification sound in place, and if I'm not actually busy in the middle of doing something, I'll occasionally check that tab just to see if it's one of the rare real messages as opposed to RMT spam. But keeping it off my main chat window is enough to allow me to easily disregard it and not be as bothered by the spam as I used to be. But if you still find those /tell chimes distracting, you can turn the sound off as well. Having them soundless and on a tab you don't normally watch is much the same as not getting them, but without the drawbacks of /busy.

Any of these workarounds are, however, essentially ways of making /tell less noticeable. It can be made less annoying, but then it's also less useful. It would be nice if SE would actually get rid of the spammers so that /tell could be more readily used for its intended purpose of communicating with other players. Whether running around with the /busy status set all the time, playing without /tell messages shown, or simply being around other players who do one or the other, the game is far less social than it might be if we didn't have to go to such lengths to avoid spam.

Well even weeks after HW it was only a few tells here and there but now it is starting up again to be frequent like how it was before hw.
I know other NA servers have the same issue however.

and it shall get worse. The only thing that can prevent them from coming over and over is ban and overpopulated servers, as they can't create accounts. And you see so many threads these days, about people "quitting", that I expect spammers to take back their seats in no time

It's a dreadful problem, I agree, and I wish the interface made reporting and silencing them easier.

Interestingly my low population Japanese server has virtually none of this. We certainly have a handful of gil sellers - it's hard to miss the army of identical BLMs wandering around Gridania - but I haven't received a tell in months, and when I did they were always in English instead of tailored to the server's main population. I find that interesting. It's a shame people are obviously buying their services, as the servers where they make the most money must be taking the brunt of the abuse. I find even a single spam tell really irritating :/

    Two things to help:

    1. Reporting is actually very easy if you just use a web browser: https://support.na.square-enix.com/f...=5382&la=1&p=0
    2. The 200-person limit for the blacklist should never actually prevent you from blacklisting someone new. It sorts automatically to put the oldest first. By the time you blacklist 200 people, the first person on the list should be long banned and safe for removal from the blacklist.

I used to get these on Balmung, but I just took the extra five seconds to report them. Now I haven't gotten any RMT spam in FF14 for months.
