I think this is the most commonly accepted theory of Odin. The Dark Divinity quest line has been pointing most people in the direction of assuming the sword is the Eikon. Then it's just a matter of figuring out why it turns everyone who touches it into Odin.

Personally, I've been digging the recent Anima weapon theory that was briefly discussed in another thread: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...the-same-thing . Basically, the idea is that Zantetsuken may have started out as an Anima weapon (or something similar) and grew its own soul by feeding on the aether of defeated enemies. This spawns the lore that it is cursed. During the course of its development, the warriors who used it fed it their faith. It's basically fed and brought up on the blood of its enemies and the faith of its wielders and eventually develops into a Primal that is constantly seeking out stronger opponents. Odin used it the longest and in the most dire circumstances, so he feeds it the most of his own aether (as well as that of his defeated opponents) and basically spirit bonds the blade. So, whenever someone new uses the sword it re-creates them into the form it is most familiar with, which is Odin.

That's just one theory of many though. There are others, including that the blade really is cursed by a demon and is simply possessing people (this theory was brought up when the Dev team stated that the Au Ra, the supposed origin of the sword, were modeled after a demon motif), or that SE will simply say "it's a primal" and not bother explaining the details at all (which would be extremely disappointing, but it could happen).
