That's what I was expecting from hunts when they first announced them would have been way better.

Get clues for what "triggers it" aka a hint of what mob to farm till you get a rare item, that you then use to summon it and you kill it with a group of friends or a FC.

You then don't have to um and ah over whether to attack something or not and you can just focus on the fun of doing something that isn't just a zergfest.

You and me both, I hope SE actually listened to the 50 page essay worth of "Make Hunts force popped!" suggestions I've sent them since they added Hunts, when it came to designing this content...

    Clearly the two don't mix.

You go kill some mobs. Those are your mobs, the whole server can't help.

You kill those mobs, oh hey, a NM version spawned for you because you killed them. Grinding trash gets you a NM.

What's this? He dropped a pop item? Take that pop item and another to a specific island, and you can spawn Byakko. Again, for yourself, not the whole server.

Spawned and killed Byakko, Suzaku, Genbu, and Seiryu? Go pop Kirin.

The only contested content I want here, are the trash mobs, of which I expect a lot of them. I don't want specific NMs to have their spawns figured out and monopolized by a handful of individuals, to essentially turn up and not get to enjoy a NM because it got claimed by someone else, wasting my time. I don't want something like Hunts, where "it's polite to wait" and zerg the damn thing down in seconds. I want to enjoy this content, and that's only going to happen with an actual claiming system and forced pops.
This^^^^^^^ People bash XI but in all honestly, XI's system just worked. Grindly it was yes but at least it had a proper everything.....

The issue is allowing reporting in contested content will spam GMs with harassment reports just because people got there first. They feel entitled that they deserve the loot. Which is why SOE in that time made a policy that players have to govern themselves.
No, it's jackassery, and it's reportable. It's called "Zone Disruption".

    This isn't EQ2.

It used to be a thing.
It's been deemed by the GM powers at the time to be against the rules and has slowly stopped becoming a thing.

I doubt people wanna face service termination for harassment over some random reset.

It's been a thing since the addition of Hunts. Fortunately, I haven't seen it done lately, even by a certain infamous collection of linkshells on my server who frequently pulled this kind of stunt. (And was the reason why this ruling was added in the first place.)

I'm a bit confused here. Maybe someone can clear this up for me.

How exactly is someone going to steal your target and reset it? If it works like hunt mobs, you know that they are immune to provoke.

If someone wanted to steal it, they'd have to be attacking it before you did or at the same time, right? And, say someone wanted to be a pest and grabbed it the same time you did and started running, couldn't someone get it off them before it leashed? At best they'd have the slightly more amount of threat as the party did and they'd not be able to hit it easily while they ran.

Please pardon me if I'm overlooking something here...

Hunt targets were not originally immune to Provoke when the Hunt was first released. Some people fear a repeat of that.

Tanks in their tank stance can generate absurd amounts of enmity with their enmity combos. It is quite easy for an equally geared tank to "steal" enmity from a DpS or Healer even if the DpS/Healer had a short lead.
