Multi-Materia Melding Success?

I'm not sure if the success rate diminishes with each new materia you add, but yea, overall you're looking at an extremely low success rate on M5 gear with all T4s on it.

Which kind of makes sense given how powerful the Tier IV materia is...+90 Str gloves...+250 HP boots...etc.

I know the system is designed to appeal to the hardcore crafters...but would anyone actually be interested in the gil/time investment required for an entire set of M5?

My cuirass has Defense +12 (Bloodwall III) and Vitality +13 (Vitality III). The success rate was listed at 25.50%. I checked the success rate of adding a Vitality +17 (tier IV) and it came up 9.60%. Success rate depends on the rolls and tier of materia with lower success rate the better your materia is, so your chance of getting two max roll Tier IV on one piece is very poor (I think around 15% but haven't tested max rolls specifically).

Honestly M5 is out of the picture now. I think realistically we're looking at M3 for hardcore players. It's going to be an absolutely enormous investment getting M3 with Tier IVs on all slots and it's much more productive to work toward that than spend all your resources trying to get a fourth materia on one slot.

I thought the same and I plan on testing this tonight and I'll post with the results.

After you've melded a certain number of materia to pieces, go back to the place where you got the quest and talk to the boss and ask about forbidden materia to receive the ability to meld extra materia to the same piece of gear. For me, the option was there after I had done 8, but I did not check previous to that.

Hey, sorry for the delay. I saw there have already been confirmations that HQ success rates are higher so I decided to test the impact of HQ2 vs. HQ1. Unfortunately I only had 2 identical materia and not 3 so I can't include an NQ in this comparison.

Defense +12 (already inserted) is the second worst Tier III roll. The HP +44 I was attempting to add is also a second worst Tier III roll. I also tested with an HP +40 (worst T3) and a Defense +13 (second best T3). Full results:

Nub materia question, figure I would drop it here. So, am I the only one that can attach materia to my gear? If so, I think the system is lame. I have no desire to hurry up and craft up to 50 so I can wear materia gear.
