Well technically there is incentive that you just noted, so it's a bit improper to say there is no incentive cause there clearly is and people are clearly doing it and gaining some reward out of it.
You mean the reward that I cap every week? Or you mean the gear that isn't that great where I can use ilvl 160 gear+ with the desired stats that I want? Hmmm not quite lol, i'd rather have ranked PvP groups so that we can have rewards much like a Season reward, tomes aren't a reward it's like a piece of candy that you keep getting hoping you're full.

A PvE reward for PvP content?

Sure, its a good way to introduce people to PvP, but now we need the next step. Lords of Verminion will have different tiers of battles, from Training, Tutorial, Battle, Challenge, and finally Tournament. A system like this that played into current PvP systems would be a dream come true!

Shrugging off the PvP levels and unique glamors doesn't make them cease to exist. That's a PvP reward, whether you want to acknowledge it or not. And you can only earn those by doing PvP content.

Honestly, is it really surprising they're not putting in much effort? The queues should tell you how popular PvP is in this game (it's as dead as a dodo filled with nitroglycerine being dropped out of an airplane at 30,000 feet with concrete shoes) so why on earth would they put lots of hours into development into something the players clearly don't care much about?

Surely it makes sense to push development time on areas where people might actually get to play it?

It's a reward by technicality does it help us in PvP? No. Does it help out team by wearing it? No. Does it make me look pretty? Yes! By the gods it must be a great reward! You're missing this thread entirely it's about competition this game is so safe in most of it's areas even the PvP is gated. We have no content right now except Alex, Alex Savage, and expert roulette, I don't think it's dead as on Leviathan I get under 5 min ques everyday. They're wasting our time on mini games rather than focus on making the game enjoyable in PvP areas (I know they need content too but there's been no focus soely on PvP). Maybe you should try PvP, then tell me how dead it is when everyone's running the same dungeon for 5 months on end.

It's dead. Deal with it. Queues for Frontlines can range from 20-90 minutes, and you only get 20 minute queues on a good day. Even when you finally DO get into a party, they're heavily weighted towards DPS and usually not fully filled (a full group gives you 24 players per side, not 8). If you're getting 5 minute queues, you're the exception, not the rule.

Again, I ask why they should bother putting in huge amounts of work for something which people are clearly not as interested in as you claim? This game was never designed for PvP, and the tacked-on last-minute design of it all should be a clear indication of that. Some skills have been so heavily nerfed in PvP that it renders entire classes meaningless to play. Ever since they locked out Cleric Stance in PvP, there has been almost zero healers. Heck, I never queue as a healer myself because pure healing is mind-numbingly boring in PvP and leaves you virtually defenseless.

As for the 'reward by technicality', well what did you really expect? Morale is meaningless outside of Wolves Den (which by the way is even more dead than Frontlines, lest you wonder), so basically all PvP gear exists for glamor only. What exactly are you expecting for a PvP reward? Gear is moot, since PvE gear will always reign supreme for Frontlines and apparently you don't care about the PvP fashions so it sounds like you don't really want a reward. You're already rewarded with XP to increase your skill levels so what more can they possibly add that's unique to PvP?

I was one of those people who had high hopes for Frontlines, expecting something more than the mundane hack-a-thon that we ended up with. Guild Wars 2's World VS World proved that tactical large-scale PvP can be done very well, and had they borrowed just a few small ideas from that it probably could have attracted a lot more players to it. As it is though, it's a horrible mess of a game desperately trying to balance skills which were never originally designed with PvP in mind.

During the live letter I watched a fan translation alongside it that said the ranking system would also be used in the updated Wolves Den. It makes sense, if their planning on revamping Wolves Den during a later patch to hold off on adding in the rank system until then.

Which is basically your win to lose ratio of non-ranking PvP meaning you can't have a premade and fight another team with the same rating. Those really mean nothing what I'm trying to draw attention to are things we are missing in PvP such as: rated battlegrounds, rated arenas, tournaments, and rewards based on your team ratings (example you start out at 0 but through the season you have 30 wins and 5 losses putting you at a rating of 1800.) These are numbers i'm pulling out of my behind but something like this rather then % of games you have won which are very vague in a 1v1v1.

good, because Wolves Den is a catastrophe that's "abused" more than its "used" via "win-trade."

For there to be a ranking system behind PvP, there needs to be people to monitor and administrate it. Otherwise its just going to be abused just like it is now.

Furthermore PvP balancing is in life-support mode. With the biggest changes from the original design being, elimination of cleric stance and Feign or missed LB usage penalty which happened a year ago.

I have more interest in the Lord of Verminion PVP than the regular PVP . It looks a lot more fun, plus I like strategy games ^^. I imagine myself spending a lot of time at the Gold Saucer when 3.1 comes out.

Anyway OP, perhaps the devs are using this as a practice run to see how to make a ranking system for the regular PVP?
