Class/job customization is blow for blow the worst in the MMO industry. Their best bet is to throw gear with different stats on it.... to pretend there's an alternative when in reality there's only ever one good set to be using. Talent trees usually have a best tree too, right? That argument is as flawed and garbage as the mind that conjured it. The games that use that system often find the numbers to be similar between "specs" when parsed. The games mentioned aren't worse, they're just dated or don't have servers in the SEA region. Bloated skill bars are just a symptom of there being no talent/skill selection system.

A lot of people seem to be conflating "There's nothing *I* want to do" with "There's nothing to do." The two things are not the same at all. Objectively, there are many, many things to do in the game; someone not wanting to do some or all of them is not a flaw with the game itself, but rather their own personal opinion. Which they're entitled to have, but let's not pretend that it's an objective fact, because it isn't. There is a HUGE amount of content available in the game for those who want to take advantage of all of it.

Then again I come from a game where we waited 6 months to get a patch with twitter integration so maybe my tolerance for patch cycles is warped.

From what I hear making 3 new jobs, story, content for the expansion all while doing 2.x was a staggering amount of work.

Let the lads defrag themselves. You won't get better content from a team that is melting at their desk.

I wonder how profitable are such huge breaks between patches. It's obviously the game is going to lose a huge number of subscribers. Vacation or not, 5 months is a long time period when there's so little endgame content.

Why don't they just release content as they finish it instead of waiting for huge patches? Staggering it out so you have something you can drop everything month might not be a bad thing. I remember in SWTOR we waiting on a certain feature for months because the PvP part was delaying the big patch. Most the community was just getting annoyed with the whole thing and telling the devs to release what they had and catch PvP up later.

As for the devs and their time off, sure they earned some rest but when your an adult you work 40+ hours a week, 54 weeks a year. Sometimes you have to put in 60 to 80 hours a week to get things done. I know if my company told the customer "Sorry but we need to delay the product a month because our people need time off" we would get laughed at and told to either hire more people to stay on schedule or pay stiff fines as per contract.

Which is very true but you can't force people log in daily to play content they have no interest in. 3 months development cycle has been good for FFXIV because that was the right time people finished up what ever personal goals they had. Now you are tacking on two more months and almost everyone has finished up Alex Norm, Eso Gear, and what ever else they wanted to do. Expect October to be a slow month.
